In this one-day training, participants will learn to recognize and provide care for persons of all ages who have experienced a sudden illness or injury until Emergency Medical Services arrive and take over. Following current Emergency Cardiac Care guidelines, students will learn to recognize a heart attack and what do in this situation, including providing CPR and using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Students will also learn to recognize stroke, breathing emergencies, and how to treat burns. Additional skills include caring for choking adults, children and infants, and controlling bleeding, as well as checking responsive persons. Certificate and reference card included. Presented by Maine Safety Education. This is a Saturday class.

Want to try the fastest-growing paddle sport in the nation? Here is a great opportunity for the novice SUP-er or “never been before but always wanted to try it” paddler. Come join Bill & Katelyn Allen and learn the essential skills and knowledge you need for Stand-Up Paddling, on boards especially designed for ease of use and learning. One day on-the-water instruction covers the basics of SUP’s, types of boards, getting on and off, basic paddle strokes and essential safety issues. Then there will be plenty of time to practice in a quiet, flat water environment. Paddleboard and PFD’s for all on-the-water instruction will be provided. *SEE BELOW FOR UPDATED COVID-19 INFORMATION*

Paddle sports are a great way to get out and still keep a safe distance from others. 

  • We ask all guests to use hand sanitizer and wash their hands frequently.
  • Wear a face-covering when in indoors or when unable to maintain social distancing.
  • We have taken additional measures to increase our usual cleaning protocols.  All life jackets, paddles, and equipment will be thoroughly sanitized before each use. All public spaces including bathrooms, rental desk, retail space, and doorknobs will be sanitized hourly.
  • We are mandating employees take precautionary health measures and continually monitor their health to ensure compliance.  Measures include frequent hand washing, social distancing, and staying home when sick.

Become a Pine Tree Hospice Volunteer Pine Tree Hospice volunteer education programs, in compliance with Maine State regulations, prepare volunteers to offer non-medical hospice support and/or bereavement care for families in our community during and after a progressive life-limiting illness. Hospice 101: Introduction to Hospice for Indirect Care Volunteers This 4-hour orientation program prepares volunteers to serve as indirect care providers. "Indirect care" includes services such as cooking, working in the office or library, fund raising, serving on the board or on a committee, but does not include direct interaction with clients or families. Upon completion, participants interested in becoming a direct care volunteer may choose to be mentored by an experienced Pine Tree Hospice direct care volunteer during visits with hospice clients and families for a maximum of 20 hours. Hospice 101 is offered as a class and also offered as an Independent Study. Certificates are awarded after completion. H101 Class to be scheduled. H101 Independent Study can be scheduled at any time. Core Curriculum for Direct Care Hospice Volunteers and Bereavement Facilitators This 13-hour program is the first part of the educational preparation for direct care hospice volunteers and bereavement facilitators. Bereavement facilitators support bereaved adults, children and families in structured group settings. Certificates are awarded after completion. Direct care does not include physical, nursing, or medical care. Direct care volunteers may choose to participate in any direct or indirect care Pine Tree Hospice function. For youth ages 12 and up. Become an informed and valuable childcare provider! Using the BLAST program by the American Academy of Pediatrics, participants will learn about developmental stages, bottle-feeding, diaper changing, safety, and age appropriate activities. Includes AHA Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid, CPR and AED use for the adult, child and infant. First aid topics include prevention, recognition and treatment for emergencies and injuries. Saturday, March 28, 9am - 3pm. Participants should bring a bag lunch. (The deadline to register is March 5! Course requires 10 students to run.) Registration: $80.

This two-session class will provide you with all the information you need to add Notary Public to your personal and professional tool kit! In class one, you will be guided through the process of how to become a Notary and some of the ways people are making a living using this skill. In class two, after you have reviewed the handbook for homework, we will answer questions and complete the application and open-book test. Leave with a completed application ready to be certified by your town clerk. Thursdays, March 19 and 26, 6-8pm. Registration: $25, includes handbook & materials.
