Designed for beginners, we will have you speaking and reading Spanish in no time. You will practice the basic building blocks of the language and common idiomatic expressions. You will know enough vocabulary and grammar for simple conversations, and you will learn how to ask and answer questions.  Whether you speak some Spanish and need a refresher, or no Spanish, you will complete the course with the skills to communicate in Spanish.

SOLO Wilderness First Responder

Calendar Sep 21, 2021 at 5 pm, runs for 5 weeks

The Wilderness First Responder Course is 72-80 hours and provides an in depth look at the skills and standards of the following • Response and Assessment • Musculoskeletal Injuries • Environmental Emergencies • Survival Skills • Soft Tissue Injuries • Medical Emergencies.  

This is an intensive first aid course designed for participants that are working in a position of leadership in an outdoor setting such as Maine guides, backcountry leaders, ski patrollers or raft guides. All Wilderness First Responder students must have a current CPR card or will need to take a CPR/AED course in an evening session.

This course includes 72-80 hours in class sessions, out of class reading, and a final exam.

If you are a current EMT you may receive continuing education credits. Once you receive your WFR certification you may take the steps to become certified as Wilderness EMT.  

Course includes: SOLO Wildcare Working in Less Than Desirable Conditions and Remote Environment textbook, 3-year WFR Certification, 2-year CPR certification. Note that to receive certification, participants must pass written and practical exams.

Sept. 21- Oct. 21 (Tues & Thurs 5pm-9pm)
Sept 25-26 and Oct 16-17 (Saturday and Sunday 8-5pm)

Spanish for Beginners (moved to online)

Calendar Sep 30, 2021 at 6 pm, runs for 8 weeks

This course is designed as a hands-on, conversation-oriented Spanish enrichment class with emphasis on conversational Spanish.  Learn basic and common phrases used in travel situations, such as registering at a hotel, asking directions, ordering food at restaurants, bartering for souvenirs, as well as useful phrases for airports, train stations, buses and taxis.

The course will cover grammar, vocabulary and most commonly used verbs in Spanish. A great option for folks preparing for a trip to a Spanish speaking country or for people wanting to connect with Spanish speaking neighbors or customers! 

We will use the book Easy Spanish Step-by-Step by Barbara Bregstein (new or used copies may be purchased on Amazon).  This is a live online class on ZOOM.   If you need support with ZOOM call 207.664.7110 to arrange a training. 

No class 11/11/21 or 11/25/21; makeup date (if needed) 12/09/21.

Gilda Garcia is a native of Guatemala and has extensive experience in human resources and training.  Upon arriving in the US, she began tutoring and realized she was passionate about sharing her language.

Fryeburg Fair Woodsman's Day

The Fryeburg Fair is Maine’s Largest agricultural fair and one  of the best blue ribbon fair in the United States. Woodsmen's  Field Day is for men and women from all over the U.S. who  compete in over 27 woods-related events. Bucksaw, standing  block, the axe throw, tree felling, crosscut, springboard, we  have it all. Events run all day with winners and awards given  out regularly and also at the closing of the day, typically  around 5 p.m. Be sure to join us at Woodmen's Field Day.  You're going to love it! Please enroll early. For a complete list  of events, go to THERE IS AN ADDMISSION FEE INTO THE FAIR on top of the $27. ($15. for over 65) transportaion fee. The fair grounds will NOT be renting wheelchairs, walkers, or strollers this year.
