Acoustic Guitar I F19

The guitar is the world’s most popular instrument! I’ll start you off easy, and in this class you’ll learn the chromatic scale, how a capo works, tuning the guitar and the 16 chords you’ll need to play a jillion songs. We’ll listen to, play, and discuss early Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie, Iris DeMent, Gordon Lightfoot, Rory Block, Bruce Springsteen, and, of course, some Christmas music! We’ll learn how to read tablature and when your fingers get tired we’ll view some DVD’s for fun! By the second class you will need to bring a capo and picks. Limit 6 students.

Aerobics ~ Low Impact

Ballroom Dance Session II

This course will teach the basics in the ballroom dance styles of swing and waltz. These dances are partner dances, so participants must register with a partner. This course will also teach timing, leading and following skills necessary to succeed in all partner dances. Each couple will progress at an individual pace. No previous dance experience is necessary. Sneakers are the recommended foot attire.

To enroll in enrichment classes, participants must be at least 18 years old and not enrolled in school.

Barre with Amanda

Barre is used as a prop to balance while doing exercises that focus on isometric strength training (holding your body still while you contract a specific set of muscles) combined with high reps of small range-of-motion movements.

Beginner Swing Dancing (6-Count Swing/Lindy Hop)

Beginner swing dancing is fun, active, and social! You don't need a partner and you don't need any experience. This 7-week progressive session will cover the basics of 6-count swing/Lindy Hop. A 30-minute practice session follows the class. Students should wear comfortable clothing and bring clean, smooth-soled shoes to change into at the class venue to keep the floor clean. Class meets at The Dance Hall, 7 Walker St., Kittery.

Discover the hottest, happiest musical instrument around! On it you can play folk music, rock, blues, pop, country, classical, reggae, bossa nova, jazz. Our beginners’ ukulele course is meant for people with no musical background – even people who think they are musically challenged! And, you don’t even need to know how to read music! Using familiar songs, he introduces you to chords, strumming, and finger picking. Requirements for his class are to have a serviceable soprano, concert, or tenor size ukulele and an electronic tuner. Duncan can help if you don’t have a uke yet.

Over the past several years the Ukulele has made a huge comeback. From chart topping singles such as “Riptide” and “Hey Soul Sister”, to classrooms and full blown ukulele orchestras, this instrument has so much to offer. Whether you have always wanted to learn an instrument or are looking for something new, the ukulele with its unique sound and convenient portability may be for you. This course will cover chords, strumming, fingerpicking, and personalized instruction of selected songs. It is recommended that you purchase “Hal Leonard Ukulele Method Book 1” ($6.99 on Amazon) and that you bring your own soprano, concert, or tenor sized ukulele.

Beyond Beginner Ukulele

Get ready to take your ukulele playing to another level with Duncan Perry! Using his song-based approach, you will explore left hand ornamentation techniques including hammering on and slides. The right hand will get a work out as you expand your knowledge of strumming and fingerpicking by learning such skills as triplets and muting. At a minimum, all students are expected to know basic chord formations in the Keys of C and G and be capable of smooth chord transitions. Requirements for his class are to have a serviceable soprano, concert, or tenor size ukulele and an electronic tuner. Duncan can help if you don’t have a uke yet.
