Beginning Ukulele for Adult Learners - June

$99

with Duncan Perry, York Adult & Community Education

Calendar Jun 5, 2018 at 10 am, runs for 4 weeks

Have you heard? The UKULELE is hot! Here's your chance to learn how to play it. This little, lightweight, go anywhere instrument is both versatile and a blast to play (assuming you practice, of course). On it, you can knock out folk tunes, rock, jazz, blues, pop, country, and classical music, as well as songs grandma knows. The classes are meant for folks with no musical background, but, by the time you have finished the course you will have a skill set enabling you to know how to form essential chords and perform basic strumming and fingerpicking techniques and you will learn how to develop your own playing style. The course is taught based on using familiar songs, so you do not need to know how to read music. However, you must have a playable soprano, concert or tenor size ukulele(no baritones please) and either an electronic tuner (recommended) or cell phone tuner app. So, grab your uke and get ready for a musical adventure! Please note, if you don’t own a ukulele now, contact the Read this for helpful information before buying one.

BIO: Duncan Perry, our seasoned instructor, is a multi-instrumentalist who has been playing ukulele for 12 years. He is a popular and experienced teacher and performer with a passion for the ukulele.

with Duncan Perry, York Adult & Community Education

Calendar Jul 10, 2018 at 10 am, runs for 4 weeks

Get ready to take your ukulele playing to another level with Duncan Perry! Using his song-based approach, you will explore left-hand ornamentation techniques including hammering on and slides. The right hand will get a work out as you expand your knowledge of strumming and fingerpicking by learning such skills as triplets and muting. More chords will be added to your toolbox and you will learn how to transpose songs from one key to another. Of course, there will be many laughs along the way. The pace will be geared to the proficiency level of those enrolling. At a minimum, all students are expected to know basic chord formations in the Keys of C and G and are capable of smooth chord transitions. If you love playing the ukulele and you want to enhance your knowledge of this wonderful instrument, this course is a must. Please have a serviceable soprano, concert, or tenor size ukulele, an electronic tuner, a music stand and a passion for playing.
