The guitar is the world’s most popular instrument! I’ll start you off easy, and in this class you’ll learn the chromatic scale, how a capo works, tuning the guitar and the 16 chords you’ll need to play a jillion songs. We’ll listen to, play, and discuss early Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie, Iris DeMent, Gordon Lightfoot, Rory Block, Bruce Springsteen, and, of course, some Christmas music! We’ll learn how to read tablature and when your fingers get tired we’ll view some DVD’s for fun! By the second class you will need to bring a capo and picks. Limit 6 students.

Ballroom Dance Session II

This course will teach the basics in the ballroom dance styles of swing and waltz. These dances are partner dances, so participants must register with a partner. This course will also teach timing, leading and following skills necessary to succeed in all partner dances. Each couple will progress at an individual pace. No previous dance experience is necessary. Sneakers are the recommended foot attire.

To enroll in enrichment classes, participants must be at least 18 years old and not enrolled in school.

Students get a unique opportunity to learn both Latin and American Ballroom in one class! Latin Ballroom is one of the hottest dance crazes to hit the U.S.; it's fun, romantic and a great form of exercise. Cruises, nightclubs, weddings, reunions and parties are always more fun when you are dancing, and American Ballroom Dance is a perfect ice breaker. At any social event, the sight of a great dancer moving to a captivating beat is simply irresistible and now you can step in light with confidence. No partner or prior dance experience necessary. In Session I students learn all the basics of Foxtrot, Swing, Salsa and Merengue. In Session II students learn all the basics of Waltz, Rumba, Cha Cha and Tango. Basic Music Theory/Ear Training (Part 1)

Revised Schedule  What are scales, intervals and chords? How can understanding them help us as we write, perform or just listen to music? Daniel Conte, experienced composer, arranger and performer, will guide you gently through the basics of how music is structured, and what to listen and/or look for to gain a better understanding of what you are writing, performing or hearing. Makeup class (if needed) 11/01/18.

Daniel Conte has been involved in music since learning to play the tuba in 4th grade. He is a singer, composer, pianist, and conductor. He believes most people have a lot more ability than they think and enjoys helping them realize it.

Prerequisite: Learn to Read Music! (Part 1) or permission of the instructor.

Part 2 will be offered in our Winter/Spring session.
