In this course, you will master the essentials of running a cat and dog sitting business. You'll begin with pet care, including nutrition, exercise, first aid, and the identification of common diseases. You will learn the basics of first aid and find out how to administer pills, liquid medications, and injections to an uncooperative cat or dog. You will discover how to handle home visits and impress your potential clients. You'll also explore sticky situations that can arise, such as lost pets, pets that die unexpectedly, and pets that need immediate veterinary care.

In addition, you will delve into finances and explore start-up costs, accounting, fee setting, business plans, and low-cost marketing. You will discover how to obtain required insurance, hire employees as your business expands, and entice financial institutions to loan you money. Then, you will look at opportunities for expanding your pet sitting services. Is a dog-walking service right for you? Can you train puppies? Do you want to look after other animals, including horses? By the end of this course, you will have all the knowledge you need to become a professional pet sitter. While MDI Adult Ed is unable to offer in person First Aid & CPR courses during the pandemic, we are committed to sharing courses offered by our partners and other organizations.   If you need any help connecting or preparing for this workshop, we are happy to support you!

This course will prepare you to recognize and care for a variety of emergencies.  If you're taking this course to meet OSHA requirements, please check with your workplace to determine if this online-only course is acceptable.  The course features award-winning simulation learning, an interactive experience where you will respond to real-world emergencies in a virtual setting to help prepare you to recognize and respond to first aid, breathing and cardiac emergencies involving adults.

This course requires a PC or tablet with a high speed internet connection, does not work with Internet Explorer, and is not supported on smartphones.  Allow approximately 2 hours 10 minutes to complete the course.

Certification: Red Cross courses offer Digital Certification - an online version of a Red Cross certificate, which provides anytime, anywhere access to student training history and course certificates. Digital certificates can be viewed, printed or shared online and can be accessed anytime through your Red Cross Account.  Each certificate includes a unique ID and a QR code which meets employment requirements and allows employers to easily confirm your certificate is valid.  There is no need to carry your printed certificate around anymore!

Continuing Education: Nurses, social workers, teachers and daycare providers and other professionals who need continuing education units to maintain licensure or certification can obtain CEUs through American Red Cross Training Services.

Lakers Track Club-Boys & Girls Ages 6-15

Track is a wonderful opportunity to meet a lot of new people, get physically fit, and build character, all while having a ton of fun!

All that is required for practice is a pair of running shoes, athletic clothing, and a water bottle.

Coaching Staff:

Current and Former Maranacook Community High School Track & Field Athletes 

Dates: June 21-August 7, 2021

Registration: $45 (includes a team singlet)

          $2 entry fee for each track meet (regular season meets)

           $3 entry fee per meet (qualifying & State Championship meets)

            $25 USATF Membership - Must register on own through usatf.org

About the meets: Athletes compete in age group divisions. There are 4 regular season developmental meets followed by a Qualifying meet and State Championships meet.

Become a safer boater by learning coastal navigation. Learn how to read a chart, symbols, colors, dangers, plotting course bearings, latitude and longitude position locating, tidal course planning and more. 

Students must have:

  • Printed Casco Bay chart: old/new/borrowed. Doesn't matter if it is paper, waterproof, or part of a chart pack. Cannot be digital.            
  • Parallel rulers chart dividers                                                                  
  •  Computer printer to print homework                                                                                                                                        
  •  Access to internet with video and audio capibilities
