Invasive Bittersweet Basket

Frustrating to gardeners and arborists, bittersweet is considered a largely useless bane on wildland. Wouldn’t it be nice if it were good for something? We can use ancient harvesting techniques to tend invasive bittersweet in the wild, simultaneously harvesting material for baskets while managing future growth.

Learn to weave a bittersweet basket. We'll employ several different weaving techniques in order to create a strong, beautiful basket for foraging, or use in the kitchen or garden. We’ll shoot for a basket about 9” wide and 7” deep, with or without a handle. This is a class for beginners, but some hand strength and dexterity is required.

Materials fee is included in the cost of the class!

Tintype Photography: History, Art & A Hands-On Demo

Step back in time and discover the magic of tintype photography! Learn the history and context of wet plate collodion, the 19th century's most popular photographic process which gave working class Americans their first chance to own a picture of themselves or a loved one. Students will also have a hands-on chance to make their own tintype in this darkroom-based class. The instructor will work through each step in the process, from coating, sensitizing, shooting, developing and fixing the plate. Each student will go home with their own, heirloom quality, finished, half-plate tintype. No prior photography experience required.

Materials fee is included in the cost of the class.

In just a few hours you can learn enough about playing the guitar to give you yearsof musical enjoyment, and you won’t have to take private lessons to do it. This crashcourse will teach you some basic chords and get you playing along with your favoritesongs right away. Since this class is being held online with ZOOM, you will be able tosit at home with your guitar and take this class without any pressure at all. And sincethe class includes an online book and online follow-up video lessons, you will be ableto continue your practice and study on your own. Cross Country & Snowshoe Trip to Jackson, NH Touring Center Trip 2

The “Foundation” maintains 150 km of trails that are considered by many to be the finest cross-country ski trails in the Eastern United States. Jackson Ski Touring Foundation presents state of the art grooming on trails designed to suit every taste and ability, whether you prefer quiet striding through  old growth, New England forest, or all out skate skiing. You  can visit on-trail destinations: the warming cabin and Cocoa  Cabin on the Ellis River Trail. We will arrive to have a full day of cross country skiing or snowshoeing. You may bring your own equipment or rent at the touring center. Before heading back, we will dine at one of the fine local restaurants. This trip will enrich lives and promote a healthy lifestyle. Rental fees and food expenses are participant’s responsibility.  Maximum of 8 may participate on this trip.
