Downeast Picklers! Introduction to Pickleball (Session 2) Chris Cherry

Calendar Mar 30, 2020 at 5 pm, runs for 3 weeks

This three-week course will cover the basic rules for playing the sport of pickleball, as well as the use of strategy as a way to win points. Emphasis will be placed on safety when moving on the courts. Pickleball is played with a paddle and wiffle ball, which will be provided for student use.

No additional equipment is needed except for clean athletic shoes (no street shoes are allowed on the courts). The first hour and a half of each session will be for instruction, with the remainder of the course time available for open play. Come prepared to have fun! Makeup class (if needed) 04/27/20.

Release deeply held tension and stress with a guided deep relaxation called Yoga Nidra. Using blankets and mats, the students find a comfortable place to rest on their back and are led through a guided meditation where they completely relax their body. This deep relaxation practice can help relieve stress and anxiety, transform negative habits, improve focus, and improve sleep. It is also said that a 30-minute Yoga Nidra practice is equivalent to 2-4 hours of sleep! No yoga or meditation experience needed.

Introduction to Homeowner Carpentry

After an introduction to shop and tool safety, participants will learn several tips for basic homeowner construction and repairs. Topics may include the following: building a sawhorse, building a wall, installing dry wall, installing windows and doors, and building a deck with rails and stairs.

Participants need to bring a tape measure, hammer, safety glasses and work boots. A speed square is optional but encouraged.

Charles Beardsley is new to our program but brings a wealth of knowledge and experience. A graduate of the University of Vermont, Mr.. Beardsley previously taught at United Technology Center in Bangor, and he has decades of experience in the construction industry.

It istaught by a certified Maine Driving Dynamics instructor in aformat that engages students with lectures, videos, and classdiscussion/participation.Those completing the course will receive a three-pointcredit on their driving record and students 55 and older canreceive an insurance discount from their insurer. But best ofall, we believe that students taking this course will be saferdrivers. They will leave the class with a new and unique wayof looking at the driving experience.

Maine Driving Dynamics is a Maine sponsored five hour defensive driving course that offers all drivers the opportunity to improve their defensive driving skills.   Course includes discussion of collision avoidance techniques, safety issues, driver habits and attitudes, and the basic elements that constantly challenge drivers on Maine’s highways.  It is taught by a certified Maine Driving Dynamics instructor in a format that engages students with lectures, videos, and class discussion/participation. 

Those completing the course will receive a three-point credit on their driving record and students 55 and older can receive an insurance discount from their insurer.  More importantly, students taking this course will be safer drivers.
