Nature Journaling I Session 1

$79

with Jodi Paloni, Central Lincoln County Adult Education

Calendar May 8, 2019 at 3:30 pm, runs for 1 week

Join us and make a personal commitment to spend more time outdoors. In this class, we’ll learn about the effects that having simple and regular “moments in nature” have on our overall well being while teaching us about the natural communities we live in.

Indoors: First we will gather indoors to discuss the positive outcomes nature can have on our good health, practice simple journaling skills and techniques to capture outdoor moments in inspiring ways, and create a simple nature journal using paper folding and gluing and/or basic hand-stitching techniques. A variety of sample nature journal pages will be on hand for inspiration.

In between: For homework, participants are asked to practice a few “moments in nature” solo sessions and begin working in their newly-crafted journals.

Outdoors: On day two, a Saturday morning, we’ll gather at a nearby natural area to share our homework––– the positive effects we noticed and any obstacles we faced. Next, we’ll practice three hands-on sensory observation skills––––sudden takes, sinking in, and making meaningful connections–––and create “sketches” depicting our experiences using both words and images in our books.

Jodi Paloni is the author of the linked story collection, They Could Live With Themselves, a two-time finalist for the Maine Literary Awards and IPPY Silver Medalist. She has an MFA in Writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts.
