The Portland Head Light is one of the most photographed lighthouses, with good reason...it’s such a  stunning vista. Even if you’ve never tried painting before, we show you the steps to paint this iconic landmark. Express your creativity in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Workshop includes all materials to make one 11 x14 inch painting.

 

Painting in Acrylics

Paint your masterpiece using the versatile medium of acrylics! The emphasis in this class will be on learning and understanding the basics through practice. The former student will have the opportunity to develop more confidence by perfecting their current skill level, while the more experienced student will explore their personal style.

Step-by-step instruction includes toning the canvas, blocking-in, painting techniques, choosing materials, mediums, additives and how to design a successful composition. Demonstrations, group critiques, and independent exercises will further enhance your learning experience. No prior painting experience is necessary.

Students must be at least 18 years old and not enrolled in high school to register.

Painting Landscapes:Capturing Light & Mood

This studio painting class is for beginner-to-experienced painters wishing to expand their landscape painting skills. We will explore different ways to key a painting, how to make color choices, create solid designs and increase our visual vocabulary while having a lot of fun! Each week we will focus on different elements that will significantly improve your ability to see and understand how successful landscapes are painted. Asking key questions, we will work from direct observation, plein air sketches and photographs to design and develop landscapes with impact. Students will be introduced to a process for starting a landscape painting with a key set of questions and powerful tools that will provide a strong foundation for their painting. Individual expression and creativity is strengthened by this process. Students may use oil, acrylic or gouache in this class. Beginners through intermediate painter are welcome. Painting On Glass

Stuck in a Mac and Cheese rut? If so, you are in for a surprise in this one-night class where pasta is revealed as the star it can be! We will learn about and taste varieties of pasta and correct preparation. We will make Pasta Pancetta,  Rotini with Toasted Walnut, Blue Cheese, and Chives, as well as easy Creamy Chicken and Broccoli Pesto Bow Ties. 

Pasta can be transformed into a quick and nutritious meal using much less sodium than commercial products.  Bring containers to take home samples. Recipes and directions included for all dishes. Buon Appetito! Class size is limited. 

Debra Arter has been teaching cooking classes to adults for nearly a decade. Her Home Ec. teacher mother instilled in her a love of creative and healthy food preparation. Her love of inspired community building through cooking events is contagious.
