Genetic Genealogy - How, When, Where and Why

New to the idea of DNA testing for genealogy research? Learn about the three major test types: Y-DNA, mtDNA and atDNA. Find out what each test offers and which might e the best tool to help with your research. Genetic DNA testing can give clues to the origins of your paternal and maternal lines. It can prove or disprove a genealogical problem. This testing can help find unknown family lines in cases of adoption or other separations from biological lines. It will find relative with whom you share a common ancestor. DNA is a wonderful tool to be used with traditional genealogical research. No discounts.
About Nancy: Nancy Milliken Mason is a genetic genealogist with over 35 years of expertise in traditional research methods. She integrates DNA results into her research to enhance its depth and accuracy. Nancy started the Maine Genealogical DIG (DNA Interest Group) in 2016 and the FTDNA Maine Genealogical Project in 2015. She grew up in Cumberland, Maine.

Crochet is more than doilies! If you can think it, you can probably find a pattern & make it! Donna learned to crochet & knit as a teen; now she pursues her passion for crochet in retirement and loves to share the skill with others. In this 4-week session, you will learn: basic techniques & stitches and how to read and choose a pattern. You will work on an individual project and we will troubleshoot any problems that may come up. Bring a G, H, or J crochet hook & a skein of 4-ply Acrylic yarn from Walmart. Let the fun begin! Four sessions, Wednesdays May 1 through May 22.
Pinguiculas and Friends!

Pinguiculas are a delightful group of carnivorous plants that can be easily grown indoors in Maine. These unique plants have shimmery glistening leaves and many bloom year-round. And caring for them? Extremely easy! Just put them in a tray of rain or distilled water and watch them bloom and grow! Julie will be bringing her Pinguicula plants as well as samples of other carnivorous plants she grows such as Nepenthes, Drosera, Utricularia, and Cephalotus. She will be discussing growth habits, soil preferences, potting, and buying online from trusted sellers.
