20 Bangor Landmarks, 20 Fascinating Stories

$10

with Richard Shaw, Bangor Adult & Community Education

Calendar Apr 25, 2019 at 6 pm

The Queen City of the East is famous for its past and present landmarks. Natural and manmade attractions include Lover’s Leap, the old City Hall, the Thomas Hill Standpipe, Union Station, the Flat Iron Block, Norumbega Hall, the old auditorium, the Jewett-Stetson House, the Bijou Theater, and the Eastern Steamship Co. terminal. Many were burned down in 1911 and torn down in the 1960s, but others still stand as members of the community. Historian Dick Shaw dusts off his storytelling skills and opens his photographic collection to discuss some of these landmarks, including who built them, what makes them unique, and why they hold a special place in our hearts. A related video will be screened in the seminar’s second hour. Richard Shaw is a Bangor High School graduate and the city’s unofficial historian. A retired Bangor Daily News writer and editor, he has compiled eight photographic books for Arcadia Publishing and writes features for Bangor Metro. Thursday 4/25 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Bangor High School. Cost: $10

$20

with Laura Perkins, Five Town CSD Adult & Community Education

Calendar Apr 30, 2019 at 6 pm

Spiritual growth doesn't require you to become a hermit or to change your life completely. But it does require commitment to a simple daily practice. Simple means a minimum of just 3 minutes each day. In our often hectic world of constant demands, are you wondering how you could ever add another commitment to your daily routine? If a daily practice of just 3 minutes a day allowed the other 1437 minutes of your day to flow more easily, would you be willing to try the daily practice for 30 days? Materials fee of $10.00 is payable to the Instructor at class. Laura Lee Perkins, of Maliseet ancestry, is a professional flutist, educator and writer. She has taught at Bowdoin, Bates, Prescott and Rio Salado Colleges. Her husband Ken Green, of Mic-Mac heritage, is known worldwide for his beautifully hand-crafted Native American-style flutes.
