Chris and Ken's Awesome Hurricane Island Cooking and Carving Adventure!

Join Master Carver Ken Wise and foodie Chris Toy for a weekend of carving and cooking on historic Hurricane Island. You'll cook and eat delicious Asian Fusion recipes using utensils of your own creation. We'll also learn about the history and geography of Maine's most remote granite quarry and settlement.

The fee includes overnight accommodations in cabins, all meals & materials, water transportation to the island. Participants will be able to carve and cook. Recipes will be from one or more of my 6 cookbooks plus some of my favorites not in the books. There will be time for learning the fascinating history of the island plus exploring its trails and sites. Keep those questions coming! Driving Dynamics

The Maine Driving Dynamics course is a driver improvement course that is aimed to improve a student's defensive driving awareness and abilities. This five-hour course includes discussion of collision avoidance techniques, safety issues, driver habits and attitudes, and the basic elements that constantly challenge drivers on Maine's highways. A student who completes the course will receive a three-point credit on their driving record. It may take up to 2 weeks for processing.

CHADBOURNE HOMESTEAD TOUR 1

with Baldwin Historical Society, Sacopee Valley Adult & Community Education

The Chadbourne Homestead was built in 1835 by Joshua Chadbourne. Most of the family went to California when the gold rush began, but some occupied the family home until the early 1900’s. In 2017 the property was donated to the Baldwin Historical Society by Glenn and Norma Haines. Great care was used during the renovation to keep all of the original features intact. The building has been transformed into a beautiful museum that houses all of the historical societies’ collections and 8 rooms of exhibits including a 2nd floor gallery of Baldwin iconic locations painted by local artists. Guided tours will include each room including the beautiful barn. Tours will be held on June 1st and 2nd at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. each day. Every donation is very helpful to our work. Learn about edible and medicinal wild plants and fungi. We will be examining commonly found “spring things” including nutritious greens, their uses, and their niche in the local ecology. Class will meet near the windmill behind school. Boots or waterproof footwear is recommended.
