America's Boating Course
with Craig Shipp, RSU 24 Adult Education
Learn the fundamentals of safe boating and earn the Maine state recognized certification that requires completion of a boating education course before operating most watercraft. This state requirement goes into effect in 2024 for anyone born after 1999. Class covers safety equipment, trip planning, navigation rules and aids, state and federal regulations, anchoring, dealing with adverse conditions and emergencies, communications, trailering, knots and lines, and more! The information is useful for operators of all types of watercrafts (power, sail, paddle) and is applicable for both ocean and freshwater boating. The course includes an examination for certification.
A materials/administration fee for the course is $10. Manuals are $28 if you want to buy one, payable at first class by cash or check ("Penobscot Bay Sail and Power Squadron") to the instructor.
This course is sponsored by the Penobscot Bay Chapter of the US Power Squadrons, America’s Boating Club.

Vinyasa Flow Yoga
with Desiree Kelley, RSU 54/MSAD 54 Adult and Community Education
Explore classical and creative yoga poses flowing in conjunction with breath. Class will begin with centering exercises, move through traditional Sun Salutations, and flow into standing sequences linking breath with movement.
We wind down with cooling postures and blissful Savasana (rest to absorb practice). With a focus on strength, balance, and flexibility—always maintaining proper alignment and safety—you can expect to leave feeling refreshed and a bit sweaty!
Suitable for all levels, but you must be able to participate in one hour of physical activity independently. Participants will need a yoga mat, two yoga blocks, and one blanket.

Strong Bones
with Mary Schwoerer, Kittery Adult Education
Are YOU ready to build bone density, improve strength, balance & agility? This class is your answer to a total-body/ mind workout for osteoporosis and osteopenia. Includes: weekly tips on Nutritional needs for Strong Bones, recipes that include delicious ways to get & absorb nutrients, exercises that include weight training, balance & agility and bone breathing exercises. Suggested items for class: 1, 2 OR 3 lb. weights (or any combination), resistance bands, bootie bands, chair & water bottle. Mary holds a M.Ed. and is Bone Builders Certified. This is a virtual class over Zoom.

Tai Chi

Practice slow movements to help relieve tension, improve balance, and promote overall fitness. Develop breathing techniques to promote calmness and beneficial energy levels. All levels are welcome!

Improving Positive Self-Talk through Art Journaling

The words you use in your internal self-dialog impact you every day. Learning to improve these messages can help improve depression, anxiety, self-confidence & self-esteem. Learn a fun & easy way to change these messages while creating a mixed-media art journal. No technical art skills are required! Supplies for in class use are provided.

Knitting
with Vicky Vaughn, Marshwood Adult & Community Education
Always wanted to learn how to knit? Or has it been a long time since you've picked up the needles? Maybe you're stuck on a project. Join us in a relaxed, fun atmosphere! You'll learn how to cast on, knit and purl, read a pattern, as well as repair mistakes in an easy-going class. It's fun to be part of a creative community.
You'll need a skein of light colored Red Heart Worsted Weight yarn and a pair of size needles (size 7 or 8 is best) other small supplies will be discussed. Get ready to learn how to make all kinds of items suitable for gift giving. One of Vicky’s favorite patterns is a dead fish hat which she is happy to share. Get ready to laugh with Vicky, she certainly makes knitting fun.
Please Note: Session 1 -There will be no class held on February 21 or March 17. Session 2 - there will be no class on April 16.
