Getting started in college is easier than you may think! UMA Rumford Center and Region 9 Adult Education are partners in your success. Don't navigate the waters of college alone! At Region 9 we offer free academic support and preparation to get you moving in the right direction.

Roz Hodge, the Student Services Coordinator for UMA's Rumfors Center will be at Region 9 Adult Education on the first Wednesday of every month from 3:30pm-5:30pm to meet with prospective students. You can take a class or earn a degree right in Rumford, with multiple ways to complete classes: 100% online, live online in real time, or in person. In addition to classes, the center is available for studying, tutoring and advising. 

Think you have to go into debt to go to college? Think again. Roz will share with you the many scholarships and programs that are available for students to take a class or complete a degree program with little or no expense!

Basic Life Support - December 4, 2024

In this one-night training, learn the essentials of recognizing respiratory and cardiac arrest and effectively beginning emergency treatment.  Participants will learn CPR and how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). 

Students will need to pick up and review the BLS Provider Manual prior to class so that they are prepared for an open-book test at the end of the training.  

*Upon successful completion, participants will receive an AHA CPR certification & card.

How Do I Get Enrolled in Adult Education?

The first step in enrolling in Adult Education is Orientation!

What happens during an Orienation?

We are so glad you asked! We want you to be prepared and informed about what to expect during your Orientation session.

During your Orientation Session you will:

  • Meet with our student advisor
  • Discuss what you would like to accomplish through Adult Education
  • Fill out enrollment paperwork
  • Sit for academic placement testing

What you should know before you arrive:

  • We are located at 377 River Road, Mexico, ME 04257
  • The Adult Education is the one that is facing the road
  • You should ring the bell and wait for us to buzz you in. Once we do that, you can come right upstairs
  • The Orientation process can take a few hours, so please plan accordingly

What you should bring to your Orientation Session:

  • A CURRENT Maine Photo ID (Maine drivers license, Maine State ID card, Passport, Military ID, etc. - If you do not have any of those form of Photo ID, please let us know when you come and we can direct you as to the next steps.)

Introduction to Wild Basketry

Wild basketry is an ancient craft that involves weaving natural materials, such as grasses, leaves, wood, vines, and tree bark, into functional and decorative containers. In class, we will review how to collect, process, and create baskets with local sourced plants. Some of the material that we may use in the class are as follow cattail, pine needle, birch bark, ash, pine bark, willow, grasses, red osier dogwood, and grapevine. This will be an interactive and hands-on class, there will be a presentation and basket demos. Students will be given an opportunity to work with some of the material and create a basket. A PDF will be shared with information on the materials and patterns. NO REFUNDS UNLESS THE CLASS IS CANCELLED OR RESCHEDULED.

In this live presentation by Chelsea Allen, a certified (State Health Insurance Assistant Program) SHIP Counselor, you will be provided unbiased information regarding Medicare, Medicare prescription drug coverage, Medicare Advantage plans, Medicare Supplemental plans, and tips on how to save money, avoid paying penalties and how to navigate through the process with more confidence to make an informed decision. All materials will be provided to you at the class and are yours to keep for future reference. Spectrum Generations, the central Maine area agency on aging, is a non-profit organization.
