In the first live online class, we'll start by learning camera settings, aperture, shutter, ISO, white balance and other compositional techniques critical to lighthouse photography. The following Sunday! During the Cruise, we’ll focus on photographing the wildlife and lighthouses, sharing techniques and approaches. Finally, we’ll meet online the following week to share, learn and critique our images. Limited to 15 students. This workshop is for beginner and intermediate photographers.

What better way to take care of yourself or a loved one than creating your aromatherapy care package?  From bath salts, pillow sprays, bath bombs, and tea blends, there is something for everyone, and these make-and-takes are a great way to create your own spa experience from the comfort of your own home.  

Enjoy this rejuvenating tea blend by making your own! 

Nancy will show you the best blend of herbs to use and how to brew it.  She will bring in some tea for you to try during class time!

Materials fee of $8 (CASH) for the instructor to pay for materials.

Materials to bring: a glass measuring cup (at least 2 cups) plus a spatula or spoon for stirring.

This class is individual and is a series of classes for the Bundle Package which saves $20.

This is a five-week course that will provide participants, 16 years and older, with the tools and understanding needed to lead small groups of participants through a day of open-water fishing adventure. We will explore the principles of the Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs campaign and use our knowledge to offer a day of open-water fishing. This course is geared to pair mentors with youth to promote spring and summer, outdoor education and develop a love for life-long learning.

INFORMATIONAL DATE: April 4 from 1:00-3:00 pm.

4 weeks of class held Thursdays, from 6:30-8P 

April 25, May 2, May 9, NO May 16, May 23

Practical Assessment on Friday, May 24 from 1-430P at BiCentennial Nature Park, Rte 3, Augusta.

This course will be taught by Kelli M Gilzow Stowell, our certified Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs Instructor, Certified Educational Trip Leader for Augusta Adult and Community Education AACE Program Coordinator, Augusta Parks and Recreation Outdoor Educator, and Certified American Red Cross Instructor.

Excel for the Absolute Beginner 5.24.24

Instructor will demonstrate how to navigate and interface with Excel’s basic features. See how to create a simple contact list. You will view how to use calculations such as autosum and see how to generate simple formulas. Also, learn to use the fill handle, sort existing data, merge and center, move cells and ranges, and wrap text. These easy steps will be held over Zoom.

Wandering Watercolors

Calendar May 24, 2024 at 1 pm, runs for 4 weeks

Join other beginning and advanced students on outings to enjoy watercolor painting and build friendships with other artists. Learn to manipulate watercolor media and tonal drawing to recreate the appearance of nature with an awareness of forms and their surrounding elements. Our basis will be the study of perspective, composition, value and color. Class location will be discussed weekly.

Prerequisite: Watercolor Basics.

Required: Proof of registration. Required: 1 small tube each: cadmium yellow (light), cobalt blue, alizarin crimson, 1 paint palette (Russel says folding ones are ideal!), 1 round #10 watercolor brush; 1 inch wide flat brush, 1 drawing pencil #2H, 1 eraser, 1 light board or piece of cardboard or portable watercolor easel, a lidded jar of water, folding chair (optional); and two sheets of Arches watercolor paper, 140 lb. cold press, (approx. $80).

Note: Please purchase Arches, as the quality of watercolor paper is essential for handling the techniques you will be taught in class.

Please bring any colors you already have.

Russel Whitten, a local artist and teacher, studied at The Art Students League of New York, Heartwood College of Art, and is a member of The Ogunquit Art Association/Barn Gallery. Students adore his laid-back, encouraging demeanor.
