NASA Camp with MAD SCIENCE
with Mad Science, MSAD 52 Adult & Community Education

Take a voyage of discovery into the atmosphere and beyond as we explore planets, moons, and other space phenomena. Create a comet and build your own Mad Science rocket and participate in a real NASA style rocket launch!
Campers will take home additional NASA activities to complete at home! Mad Science is the ONLY organization licensed by NASA to use these activities for Summer Camps!

CDL Class B Truck Driving School

Course Outline: The CDL course consists of 42 hours of classroom and 30 hours of range and road driving instruction. It is expected that students will complete all of their required drive time and received CDL licensure in approximately 3-4 months.
Late Summer 2025 CDL Class B Licensure Program: We are now taking reservations for our spring 2025 CDL class-B truck driving class. In person classes will occur on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5-9:00pm.
Regular CDL class dates are: August 5, 7, 12, 14, 19, 21, 26, 28 and September 2, 4, 9, 11. In addition to the regular CDL class dates, those planning to obtain their school bus/passenger endorsement must also attend August 9, 16, 23 and 30 from 8am-1:00 pm. The hazmat endorsement training date is TBD.
CDL Drive Time: Drive time will occur M-F, 8am-5:00pm, with very limited availability on weekends. Individual student driving appointments will be arranged by instructors. All driving and classroom instruction will occur at our training facility located at 73 North Road in Readfield.

Are you interested in obtaining a USCG Captain's License? Do you want to learn the difference between an Operator Uninspected Passenger Vessel (OUPV) license and a Master 100GT license, and what experience the Coast Guard requires for each?
This informational session will help answer these questions and others about the two licenses. The different methods for completing the course requirements will also be discussed.
We plan to offer both courses in Maine during the Fall 2025, representing the Captain School Key West / Miami.
This information session is free, but please register in advance, so the instructor knows how many individuals will attend and can send login instructions.

Museum Sketchbook: Fransworth

Bring a sketchbook and pencil and join us for an afternoon of drawing in one of Maine's fabulous art museums. Forge an intimate connection with museum collections, while improving your own work by studying the techniques of the masters. Guidance and critical feedback are provided as needed. At the end of our visit, we will meet up to share our results with the group. Museum admission is included in fee. Location: Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland. Participants will meet at the museum.
Intro to Nature Journaling - Summer
with Beverly Thorpe, Old Orchard Beach/Saco Adult Education

All levels welcome! Engage curiosity about the natural world using drawing and discussion. The first class will be held at the Saco Learning Center and class locations to various nature-rich areas will be discussed weekly and includes Clifford Park and Blandings Park Wildlife Sanctuary. Beverly will call by 9am IF the class is moved indoors (to the Saco Learning Center) due to inclement weather.
Bring a 5.5- X 8.5-inch spiral multimedia sketchbook, mechanical pencil with eraser, several gel or ballpoint pens with fine or medium points as well as a container to hold your materials when traveling to different sites. Optional: Watercolor pencil set (instructor recommends Pentel Arts Aquash water brushes available on Amazon - materials approx. $35).
Beverly Thorpe is a Maine Master Naturalist and artist working with various forms of art including metalsmithing, drawing, painting and creating artist books. She leads nature walks on local trails focused on native plants & trees, and loves to share the awe-inspiring beauty of nature with others.
