Zinnias are one of my absolute favorite flowers to grow in the garden every year, and their popularity and low maintenance make them well-suited for this class. We will paint those vibrant flowers with petals that layer so nicely. . No Prior experience is necessary; Shirley welcomes beginners with open arms. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or picking up a brush for the first time you’ll find this to be a fun and engaging class. Canvas and paints are supplied.

History of Malaga Island

Learn about the eviction of a complete community living on Malaga Island in Casco Bay in 1912. Learn the prehistory of the island's use by our indigenous people and post history of the island after the eviction. Learn a bit about the mainland African American village in coastal Maine that no longer exists but predated the Malaga Island Colony. Visit the island remotely through a slide show created by Master Maine Guide, Alice. This course is offered via Zoom.

David has collected edible mushrooms for 50 years. He is a member of the Maine Mycological Association and the North American Mycological Association.

Darning and Mending

Learn the vital art of sewing, darning and mending. We'll study cross-hatching hole-mending, then employ a few simple stitches to create a functional cloth pouch. Bring your holy garments! We will have an assortment of yarns, threads, needles, fabrics and patches. We'll help you fix as much as we can!

There is still a lot of misunderstanding and misinformation about Maine's compassionate end-of-life care option. Many providers and patients in Maine are still not familiar with Maine's Death with Dignity Act. In effect since September 2019, the law permits physicians to practice medical aid-in-dying under specific circumstances. Know the facts and, if qualified, the right to access medical aid in dying if they choose. Join this class to get fact-based information and all the details you need to know about Maine's law, how to have the conversation with your physician, and how to qualify for the law or support your loved one who may be qualifying. (No materials/supplies required).

Maine’s compassionate end-of-life care option is the subject of a great deal of confusion and false information. Although Maine’s Death with Dignity Act has been in place since September 2019, most patients and medical personnel are still unaware of it. Learn how to talk about it with your doctor, how to comply with the law or how to help a family member who might qualify.
