In this class, you'll learn how to use a variety of paper items, from patterned paper to old book pages, to make a one-of-a-kind vintage themed journal perfect for writing, art journaling, memory keeping, or gifting. We’ll cover basic binding, layout, and creative embellishing techniques. All materials are provided, but feel free to bring your own scraps, photos, or keepsakes to make it truly unique!

If you’ve written a book (or are dreaming of it), the task of getting it out into the world can seem like a daunting task. In this one-night workshop, author and medium Rob Gutro will demystify the world of self-publishing. Guiding you through choosing the right publishing platform, formatting your work, Rob will cover the tools you need to turn your story into a successful self-published title.

Hike, snowshoe, geocache, hunt, and enjoy the woods and fields of Maine with confidence that you can read a topographic map, understand the symbols, know which way a river flows, plot a course bearing, use online resources, and how to get to safety. Familiarization to using a compass and map outdoors included. There is homework to practice in between each class. Students will have access to an online textbook. Perfect for future Registered Maine Guides or Trip Leaders. Students must have a DeLorme Maine Gazetteer, and a 2-degree baseplate compass. This course is offered via Zoom over two sessions. This is a LEVEL 1 program.

Whether you are new to the world of printmaking, or an experienced printmaker, you will benefit from working alongside others in an experimental, supportive and convivial studio environment. You will have access to a small roller press and will explore various other printmaking tools and styles. This class will focus on relief printmaking techniques including block, linocut, and Collagraph printmaking. Don’t worry about a materials list, there are usually enough supplies for you to try out various techniques before deciding on a direction for your work. You will use your sketchbook to develop ideas for your prints, then decide which technique best suits your images. If you lack confidence, the Instructor and your studio mates will work with you to develop projects that will both help you learn the basics while also giving you freedom to express yourself in a way that’s meaningful to you. Oils are a very forgiving medium, great for learning because it’s easy to revise, repaint, wipe out and start over. Keeping an oil painting mobile and active throughout the process means that at any moment or any stage, your painting can surprise you and move you forward in a new direction. Sometimes one brushstroke allows you to see new possibilities. Ed has helped many artists power through their fear of starting, and gain confidence as oil painters.
