Tai Chi for Balance, Flexibility and Strength: Intermediate Level

This 22 week course is designed as an intermediate level course. Participants should have completed set 1 course or have prior Tai Chi experience. This class will pick up on extending set 1 course to include more advanced challenging movements which comprise the this second set. Easy, safe and effective to learn. It enhances the body's energetic system thus practicing the form improves almost all aspects of health. Over 10 scientific studies show it relieves pain, maintains and improves health and the overall quality of life. Almost anyone of any physical condition can begin and continue to progress regardless of age. Practicing this form will help to improve your balance, flexibility, serenity and enhance your mind-body connection. *There is a $20 cancellation fee if you register for this program and then need to cancel for whatever reason.

Sew for "Dress A Girl"

Every girl deserves at least one dress. Since October 2009, "Dress A Girl Around The World" has reached over 81 countries with a recorded number of over one million dresses delivered to girls in need around the world. Recently, we spoke with the Maine DAG Ambassador, Jane, who is in need of help with sewing menstral pads and dresses for girls in need.

We will be holding 9 sewing dates for those who are interested in volunteering their time to sew. You can stay the whole time or for a few hours; any help is appreciated. If there are more requests for sewing days, we will update that information on our website and social media. Feel free to bring a lunch with you; the sewing room at NACE has a refrigerator you can keep your food/drinks in.

Unique Birthday Cards

Birthdays should be special but these cards don't  require any special equipment.  Students will create three birthday cards using three different folds:  a trifold, a center locking card and a step card.  All materials will be included along with complete instructions for making similar cards in the future.

Taiji Qigong Shibashi System for Body, Breath and Mind Connection

This 22 week course will explore Shibashi's second Set / Connecting to Earth. Easy and and safe to learn, Taiji Qigong Shibashi is an effective exercise system blending the gentle and fluid art of of Taiji with the strength of Qigong producing potent health benefits. The wavelike, fluid motions of the form stimulate the flow of Qi and Blood throughout the entire body. In this course we will explore how anatomical alignment facilitates deeper breathing and a meditative mindset. Practicing Shibashi will balance you Qi, improve your wellbeing and the quality of your life. No prior experience required. *There is a $20 cancellation fee if you register for this program and then need to cancel for whatever reason.

Chinese Culture & Conversation

This course introduces students (Beginning learners) to basic Chinese language and culture through engaging, hands-on activities. Students will learn Pinyin, tones, simple vocabulary, greetings, numbers, and expressions such as “How are you?” and “I like to….” Cultural topics include Chinese calligraphy, paper cutting, zodiac signs, traditional festivals like the Spring Festival and Mid-Autumn Festival, and creative projects such as designing Chinese names, making fans, mooncakes, and red pockets. Through conversation, art, and cultural exploration, students develop an appreciation for Chinese traditions while gaining foundational speaking and writing skills in Mandarin. *A $20 materials fee is due to the instructor on the first night of class.

This is an ongoing instructional and playing session for students that have participated in the Intro to Ukulele session offered by Nina Andersen or have some basic Ukulele playing skills and experience. Each session will build on the skills learned in the Intro class and we'll build a solid repertoire of songs to play together. *This program meets for a total of 5 class sessions on the following dates: 9/15, 9/29, 10/20, 11/10, and 12/8.
