High Altitude Vacationing
with Carole Freeman, Windham/Raymond Adult Education

Take this class now, if you are planning a mountain vacation in 4 to 6 weeks! You’ll progress through 10 exercises that will gradually help your body adapt to your vacation site’s higher altitude while still at home at sea level. Changes include an increase in red blood cells, giving your blood more oxygen-carrying capacity prior to your vacation. Learn a more functional breathing pattern for greater tissue oxygenation and less shortness of breath. Rebuilding Energy & Endurance at any age
with Carole Freeman, Sanford Community Adult Education

We are so excited to offer this wonderful series of courses with Carole Freeman of York. Each class is a "stand-alone & self-paced" session that you can register for and then take at your own convenience! Monday morning, Sunday afternoon, Friday night? It's up to you! Each class has a specific focus with information & exercises unique to its topic.
Rebuilding Energy & Endurance at any age
Yes, it’s true, you can, literally, breathe new life into your body!
Every cell in your body is dependent on oxygen to create energy. And the amount of oxygen available to every cell in your body and brain is dependent on the breath. To be even more specific, dependent on the quality of your breathing pattern and function. This class will train you, and your entire respiratory system, to be more efficient at delivering blood, oxygen, glucose, and nutrients to all those cells. Whether you’re an athlete or not, the secret to greater strength and endurance starts and ends with the strength of your respiratory system. No matter how long you train, or how hard you work out, when your breathing gives out - your body follows.
The class is presented as if the student will give themselves at least 3-6 weeks to implement the exercises & techniques.
Carole Freeman, B.S. RRT, Breathing Specialist
Carole’s background has been equal portions of respiratory therapy, exercise physiology, and massage therapy. Her career as a respiratory therapist began at Loma Linda University Medical Center where she discovered that most adult patients were in the hospital because of poor lifestyle choices. That inspired her to attend graduate school at LLUMC, majoring in Health Sciences. She now focuses her work in a relatively new field of pulmonary medicine - recognizing and treating breathing disorders. She has personally benefitted from improved breathing patterns, “I have found that each day I was mindful of my breathing pattern, I gained more energy, and my breathing became easier. It felt like I was turning the clock back as I continued to gain strength and endurance.”
Breath-Taking Online is a school that encompasses the entire field of this branch of medicine. Carole’s mission is to share this information, along with personal experience and background, to help others breathe easier and feel healthier, too.

CLINICAL MEDICAL ASSISTANT ONLINE
available
with Academy of Medical Professions, MSAD 52 Adult & Community Education

There are few industries that offer as much opportunity ad stability as the healthcare industry. If you are considering a career in healthcare, becoming a Clinical Medical Assistant may be perfect for you. A career in Medical Assisting could provide you with everything you’re looking for: A short training period, excellent job opportunities, a good salary, and a professional working environment.
What is a Clinical Medical Assistant (CMA)? A Clinical Medical Assistant is a medical support professional that performs a variety of tasks to assist physicians in providing patient care, while ensuring that clinics and hospitals run smoothly and efficiently. While CMAs working in smaller practices may be required to perform some administrative tasks, those working in larger medical facilities focus mainly on providing support services directly related to patient care. Here at the Academy we offer both Clinical and Administrative programs that can be combined.
Clinical Medical Assistants are more often found at the physician’s side working in close contact with patients. Typically, Medical Assistants prep rooms and prepare patients for examinations, while helping manage medical supply inventories. CMAs may also assist nurses and physicians providing direct patient care by taking medical histories, charting vitals, and assisting in examinations and procedures. Some even perform more advanced tasks under the supervision of a physician such as cleaning and dressing wounds, removing sutures, collecting blood and other specimens as well as administering medication.
Characteristics of a successful Clinical Medical Assistant: Excellent communicator, ability to multitask, organized, ability to handle stress and think clearly on the fly. One must be compassionate while still maintaining a professional distance. This job often involves working with people who are sometimes frustrated, anxious, tired, sick and possibly even dying.
All courses offered either locally at Adult Education Centers in Maine only. Externships are suggested, please ask your career counselor for more details or assistance in providing those.
