Clay Boxes Spring 2024

Weekend Ceramics Workshops All classes are taught by instructor, Cody Clinton, and will be held at PHEC on Saturday and Sunday from 10am-4pm. Finished pieces will be dried and fired after the workshop ends, and be made available for pickup approximately 2 weeks after the workshop unless otherwise specified. Using slab-building techniques we will create any number of a variety of box forms such as; jewelry boxes, pen/pencil boxes, stash boxes, butter dishes, luminaries, tea boxes, napkin holders, etc.. Day one will be dedicated to learning the construction techniques and completing a single basic form. There will then be time to create additional forms of your choosing on day two. We will also present various ways to embellish and decorate your completed forms on day two. Day two will also allow you time and opportunity to expand on building things with box forms.

Safe Sleep: Is your baby sleeping safely?  Parents & caregivers will learn the top 10 tips for a safe sleep environment.  Sort through the myths and facts, and see what a safe sleep space looks like.  PURPLE: Did you know babies could cry like this?  Parents and caregivers learn that infant crying is a normal part of every infant's development, and will come away with an understanding of crying, what to expect, how to keep the baby safe, and tips on how to navigate this time in a healthy, supportive way.

Pottery; "Vases"

This is a hand-built pottery class. 

In this one-day ceramic hand-building course, you will learn to make a slab constructed vase. Textures will be used to create dynamic surfaces on a vase that will make a beautiful addition to your home. Your finished project will be glazed in your choice of color. It will be ready for pick up approximately two weeks after class. No previous clay experience is required for this class. All tools and supplies will be provided by the clay studio.

Sheep in the Valley: A Painting with Fiber - MS

In this class you will make a felted picture using wool, bamboo, and silk--no experience necessary! You will leave with finished and matted work of art, which will be suitable later for an 8 x 10 frame if you choose. The instructor, Bunny, recently had the opportunity to study under Fiber Artist, Moy Mackay in Peebles, Scotland and has brought her new skills to you! You can visit Facebook--Bunny Caldwell Paints with Wool to see examples of the finished product we will make in class. All materials will be provided. There will be a $10 materials fee (cash or check, only) due to the instructor at the start of class. Please bring a snack, as the class will have a short break around noontime. Limit 10 students.

Sebago Lake Kayak Historical Tour - Session I

Join the Registered Maine Guides at Sebago Trails for an on-the-water adventure. This two-hour course will begin with a safety briefing and lesson covering the fundamentals of recreational kayaking. Using the EZ launching system at Sebago Trails Paddling, the tour will explore the water-carved bends and twists of a meandering stream unveiling local wildlife in a rustic backdrop. Then continue onto Jordan Bay of Sebago Lake as the guides share stories dating back to the settlements of the region. Come for the beautiful lake views and leave with your new favorite hobby! This is a great experience for anyone looking to get outdoors. Perfect for first time kayakers and experienced kayaking enthusiasts. A kayak, paddle and life jacket will be provided. Co-owners of Sebago Trails Paddling Company, Bill and daughter Katelyn, have over 30 years of paddling experience and instruction between them. All classes will be held at Sebago Trails Paddling Co., 1311 Roosevelt Trail, Raymond
