TAI CHI – TUESDAY OR THURSDAY SESSION

Tai-Chi is one of SVACE’s longest-running classes which has experienced some gradual and wonderful changes over the years. It is now led by loyal volunteers who are willing to lead, learn, and practice the Yang Style 24 Form, the 40 Form, and the Qigong warm-ups for all attendees. Bring water and comfortable footwear. Please note: This is for one day a week. You can do Tuesday or Thursday in any given week as your schedule permits.

Learn to play the ukulele! It has never been more popular and you don’t even have to know how to read music! On the uke you can knock out folk music, rock, blues, jazz, pop, country, tunes old and new -- even classical music. Duncan Perry, who has taught more than 700 students of all ages, will introduce you to essential chords and playing techniques using commonly known songs. You will need a playable ukulele and an electronic tuner or a tuner app. If you don’t own a ukulele, please contact us for information. Here’s your chance to find out how to play this wonderfully versatile, go anywhere instrument in our no-stress program for beginners.Pick the session that works for you. UKULELE FOR BEGINNERS - LIVE ONLINE, SESSION 6

This is your chance to learn to play this amazingly versatile instrument. You’ll need a ukulele, some curiosity, a love of music, and time to practice. Join our stress-free program for plenty of fun and learning. You won’t want to stop once you have mastered the fundamentals. The nicest part is that you don’t have to read music! Sign up, tune up, and show up to start your musical adventure now! Buying a ukulele? Duncan can provide you with brand, price, style, and size recommendations as well as local stores where you can purchase an excellent beginner’s ukulele. Contact us and we’ll have him reach out to you! Required: Five days before the start of the program, important documents will be sent to the email address you provided at registration. Before attending the first session, please read the email and documents carefully. Pre-registration is required to receive online link.
America's Boating Course
with Craig Shipp, RSU 24 Adult Education
Learn the fundamentals of safe boating and earn the Maine state recognized certification that requires completion of a boating education course before operating most water craft for anyone born after 1999. Class covers safety equipment, trip planning, navigation rules and aids, state and federal regulations, anchoring, dealing with adverse conditions and emergencies, communications, trailering, knots and lines, and more! The information is useful for both ocean and freshwater boating. The course includes an examination for certification.
A materials/administration fee for the course is $10. Manuals are $35 if you want to buy one, payable at first class by cash or check ("Penobscot Bay Sail and Power Squadron").

Let's Get Fit and Stay Fit
with Donna Abbott, RSU 24 Adult Education

*Please bring a floor mat and 1-5 lb. weights.
This low-impact workout allows you to work at your own pace and level. It is 50-60 minutes of simple moving, with options to add some light weights (or not), use stretch tubing for resistance training and incorporate an abdominal workout and flexibility stretches. Anyone can do this. Class meets two times a week. All levels welcome.
If you pay via check or with cash, the cost is $50.
The drop-in fee is $8 each class.
Drawing for Beginners
with Donna Kantor, Lake Region & Fryeburg Area Adult Education
It's never too late to learn! No experience is necessary or expected. A class that introduces the nuts-and-bolts approach to a structured drawing process. A variety of mediums will be used - graphite in different forms and charcoal in block, powder and vine. Materials provided for in-class use.
Pickleball for Beginners*
with Jim Hutchinson, Mid-Maine Regional Adult Community Education

Have you tried Pickleball yet? It is a fun, social, and a great exercise sport. You will learn the forehand, backhand, serve, volley, and overhead strokes in a fun and supportive environment. It’s nice for friends to join together, or join and make new friends. Bring a pickle ball paddle if you have one, or there will be a few to borrow during class time. Please wear proper footwear—the instructor recommends either court or tennis shoes and preferably pickle ball shoes. Rain makeup will be Saturdays at the normal class time and depending on the forecast for Sunday we may meet a day early on Saturday. There will be no Pickle Ball on May 25. Limit 8 students.
Pickleball for Intermediates*
with Jim Hutchinson, Mid-Maine Regional Adult Community Education

This class is for 3.0 to 3.5 Pickleball players who wish to become a smarter, more skillful doubles player and for those gearing up for tournament play. Please wear appropriate footwear—the instructor recommends court or tennis shoes and preferably pickleball shoes. There will be no class if it is raining or has rained making the court wet. Rain makeup will be Saturdays at the normal class time and depending on the forecast for Sunday we may meet a day early on Saturday. There will be no Pickleball on May 25. Limit 8 students.
