Instant Guitar for Hopelessly Busy People

Have you ever wanted to learn the guitar but  simply find it difficult to find the time? In just a  few hours you can learn enough about playing  the guitar to give you years of musical enjoyment, and you won’t have to take private  lessons to do it. This crash course will teach you some basic chords and get you playing along  with your favorite songs right away.

Since this class is being held online with Zoom, you will  be able to sit at home with your guitar and  take this class without any pressure at all. And  since the class includes an online book and  online follow-up video lessons, you will be able  to continue your practice and study on your  own.

An optional periodic online question and  answer session is also included. A recording of the class is included as well.

Topics include:

  • How chords work in a song
  • How to form the three main types of chords
  • How to tune your guitar Basic strumming patterns
  • How to buy a good guitar (things to avoid)
  • How to play along with simple tunes

This crash course will teach you the following: how chords work in a song, how to form the three main types of chords, how to tune your guitar, how to buy a good guitar (things to avoid), and how to play along with simple tunes. Open to anyone 13+ years old. Class size is limited to 15.

This class is for students who have taken Beginner Guitar in prior semesters or have already learned to play and want to get together with others at a similar level to practice. In this informal gathering of musicians, you will play improvised or unrehearsed music in an "open studio” class ideal for you to work on songs and techniques not finished in class or that you need help with. Class is suitable for acoustic 6 string guitar or bass. You must be able to play sufficiently including being able to play basic chords.

While regular piano teachers teach note reading, piano professionals use chords. You can learn all the chords you will need to play any song in one session. Any song! Any style! Any key! Topics include: how chords work in a song, how to get more out of sheet music by reading less of it, how to form the three main types of chords, how to handle different keys and time signatures, how to avoid “counting” and how to simplify over 12,000 complex chords. Beginners can print out a free pamphlet on reading music by going online to http://www.pianofun.com/downloads/notes.html. Don Pride is a professional musician, teacher and composer who plays throughout the United States. He is a member of the Portland Jazz Orchestra and leads The Don Pride Band. Don teaches at the University of Southern Maine, St. Joseph’s College, the Portland Conservatory of Music and in his private studio.
