Pickleball for Beginners - MS

Have you tried Pickle Ball yet? It is fun, social, and an exercise sport that you can do for a lifetime. You will learn the forehand, back-hand, serve, volley, and overhead strokes in a fun and supportive environment. It’s fun for friends to join together, or join and make new friends! Bring a pickleball paddle if you have one. There will be a few to borrow during class time. Please wear proper footwear-- the instructor recommends court or tennis shoes and preferably pickleball shoes. There will be no class if it is raining or the court is wet. Rain makeup classes will be held the following Sunday 2:30PM - 4:00PM. There will be no class on Monday, May 27, but wewill hold class on Wednesday, May 29, as a make-up. Invite a friend to join you! Limit 8 students.

MaineGeneral's Harm Reduction Program leads training and conversation on Overdose Response and Narcan Administration. The presentation will begin by discussing what harm reduction means, and what opioids are, before identifying what an opioid overdose looks like. The training will then discuss steps for responding to an overdose, and close with a conversation about the Good Samaritan Law. Attendees are invited to ask any questions and/or share experiences throughout.

Every attendee will be offered a Narcan kit in addition to educational materials to leave the class with. mainegeneral.org/about-us/community-health/harm-reduction

This class is for 3.0 to 3.5 Pickleball players who wish to become a smarter, more skillful doubles player and for those gearing up for tournament play. Learn about adult, child and infant CPR and AED use, adult, child and infant choking, and how and when to call emergency services. Course includes use of manikins, video, certified instruction, practical components, and a certificate of completion. Practical time has been increased to ensure you have enough time to gain confidence in your skills. Optional workbook is available for $10 (cash please) from instructor at class.

Knitting Basics (2 weeks)

Ideal for beginning or "rusty" knitters. Casting on, ending a project, and repairing mistakes will be covered, as well as mastery of the basic knit and purl stitches, the foundation of all knitting. 

This class is a short three-week class.  All levels of ability are welcome! Bring size 7 knitting needles, 1 light color Supersaver Red heart yarn (7 ounces), 1 small pair of scissors, and a tape measure. 

 

Can't make a full session?  Student drop-ins are welcome!

Drop-In fee is $15 per class.  

Please stop by the office to pay for class drop-in.

 

 

Spanish - Advanced

Advanced Beginner Spanish is for those who are ready to move on from the intermediate and Continuing classes. Textbook fee of $15 is payable to instructor at the first class, if you are continuing from an earlier class you will be using the same book. Class skips 5/27.

Building on the skills that are acquired in the iPad Basics class, the primary focus of the intermediate class is the exploration of the applications that Apple provides for free as part of the iOS. Applications such as Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Messages, FaceTime and many others will be covered. If time allows, favorite Apps from the App Store will be presented. There are three one-hour sessions for this class.

Prerequisite for this class is participation in the iPad Basics class or equivalent knowledge. 

Please bring your iPad to all three classes.
