Personal Enrichment

Breath-Taking 101

$37

with Carole Freeman, Central Lincoln County Adult Education

Life is easier when you breathe easier. It’s estimated that 85% of us unknowingly use some type of poor breathing pattern that’s connected to feeling sick and tired. This class has helped many people feel healthier and stronger simply by learning to switch their every-day breathing to a more beneficial pattern.

Carole’s background has been equal portions of respiratory therapy, exercise physiology, and massage therapy. Her career as a respiratory therapist began at Loma Linda University Medical Center where she discovered that most adult patients were in the hospital because of poor lifestyle choices. That inspired her to attend graduate school at LLUMC, majoring in Health Sciences. She now focuses her work in a relatively new field of pulmonary medicine - recognizing and treating breathing disorders. She has personally benefited from improved breathing patterns, “I have found that each day I was mindful of my breathing pattern, I gained more energy, and my breathing became easier. It felt like I was turning the clock back as I continued to gain strength and endurance.”

Breath-Taking at Night

$37

with Carole Freeman, Five Town CSD Adult & Community Education

The #1 reason why so many people are sick and tired

This class teaches you how to fall asleep faster, stay asleep longer, stop snoring and wake up feeling rested.

You’d be shocked at how many health disorders are related to, if not caused by, faulty breathing during sleep. While many people feel there’s nothing they can do about snoring or waking frequently at night, they’d be just as surprised to know there’s more you can do about it than you think.

You and I know that you can’t possibly have your highest brain power, do your best performance, and function at your highest level when you are chronically fatigued and drained from a lack of deep restful sleep.

You will receive a link and a code for this class after you have registered and paid.

Food and nutrition have a profound impact on our health and well-being, yet many of us are not aware of what foods to eat, which diets are healthy, and where our food originates. We eat toxic, irradiated, or genetically altered foods and we eat more than we need. How can we change our eating habits and become more conscious of what we eat, why we eat it, how it is prepared, and what consequences our food choices have on our health as well as the health of our planet? This certificate provides an overview of the role of food and nutrition choices on our bodies, our immune systems, our overall well-being, and the health of all sentient beings on an increasingly populated planet.

The outcome of this certificate is for the learner to describe a holistic overview of current food and nutrition issues and their impact on physical, social, emotional, spiritual, and planetary health.

Although there are many ways to meditate and many different forms of meditation, they all share the characteristic of intentionally training a person's attention and concentration. Meditation practices are used by diverse cultures, are rooted in the traditions of the great religions, and have been practiced for thousands of years to promote healing. Evidence of meditation's health effects has been well documented: the practice offers improvement in the symptoms of various disease conditions in addition to the experience of a deeper spiritual connection.

The outcome of this certificate is for the learner to describe the types and practices of meditation, specific health effects, and the practice of mindfulness meditation. (8 contact hours)
