Chakra and Energy Balancing 101

Perhaps you know about Chakras, those little energy centers in your body that work to keep you physically and emotionally healthy… or maybe it’s all new to you and you’ve only heard the term and have limited knowledge about them.  As a Pranic energy Healer and certified instructor, I want to help dispel the mysteries!  In Chakra and Energy balancing 101, we’ll discuss just what these energy centers are, what their jobs are for your physical and emotional health, what happens when they’re not functioning at their optimal level and more importantly - we’ll do a ½ hour guided meditation to actually clear and balance those chakras out!   2  hour class

Chords are Key to Piano

In just a few hours you can learn enough secrets of the trade to give yourself years of musical enjoyment. How do we do it? While regular piano teachers teach note reading, piano professionals use chords. You can learn all the chords you will need to play any song in one session. Any song! Any style! Any key! Topics include: how chords work in a song, how to get more out of sheet music by reading less of it, how to form the three main types of chords, how to handle different keys and time signatures, how to avoid "counting" and how to simplify over 12,000 complex chords. Beginners can print out a free pamphlet on reading music by going online to http://www.pianofun.com/downloads/notes.html. Don Pride is a professional musician, teacher and composer who plays throughout the United States. He is a member of the Portland Jazz Orchestra and leads The Don Pride Band. Don teaches at the University of Southern Maine, St. Joseph?s College, the Portland Conservatory of Music and in his private studio.

Drawing Basics

The act of careful observation and interpretation of an object on a flat surface develops skill and is a calming activity. Drawing requires one to slow down and look very carefully at what is in front of you. You will be given tips and tricks to break down an object into basic shapes. See how to create 3/D value, texture and effects of light on an object. Learn to draw from direct observation. We will follow the basic process of careful observation, creation of basic shapes, refining shapes and creating value and details to bring a drawing to life. The instructor will provide a significant collection of natural objects to choose from. You will have the option to create a simple lighting observation box that can aid in drawing. Beginner to advanced students welcome! Supply list will be sent to all participants once we know class will run.

About Debra: Debra Bickford has lived in the Buxton and Hollis area for over 50 years. She has a BA from Maine College of Art and a BS in Art Education from USM. She has taught Visual Arts in Maine at the High School Level for 37 years and recently retired. She has also served on the board of the Maine Art Education Association for twenty years and was the President from 2017-19. In 2015 she was the MAEA Secondary Art Educator of the year and in 2018 she was honored with the MAEA Art Educator of the year. Debra is a painter and printmaker who loves to garden.

Buying your first house is truly a big deal! Our friends at KVCAP can help you understand the process.

In this 8-hour, in-person class, KVCAP covers everything you need to know about the home-buying process and owning your home going forward. KVCAP teaches you the steps involving shopping for a home, mortgage lender and real estate broker, obtaining a mortgage loan, the importance of home inspections. The class also covers improving your budget and credit profiles and how to maintain your home and finances after the purchase so that you can protect and grow your investment. The class reviews how to avoid falling victim to scams too.

Participants who complete all 8 hours are eligible for A Homebuyers Education Certificate. The certificate can help you access down payment assistance or mortgage products that require HUD-certified homebuyer’s education. It’s good for TWO years with most lenders!

In this class students will learn the hands-on-process of making fresh cheese—including yogurt, ricotta, paneer/panir, mozzarella, and Caso Rexo (buttermilk cheese). There is a $10 materials fee per person, separate from the registration fee, due directly to the instructor at the start of class. Students will need to bring tight plastic containers to take cheese home. Limit 12 students.

Acquire the fundamental knowledge and skills necessary to handle first aid, choking, or sudden cardiac arrest situations until emergency medical assistance arrives. Learn how to handle scenarios including bleeding, sprains, bone fractures, and shock. Learn to operate an AED and give CPR to infants, children and adults. Certifications in first aid and CPR are valid for two years and meet the requirements for child care providers.

Karl Finley, an EMT/Paramedic who has served as a volunteer fireman with the Scarborough Fire Department for more than 20 years, previously spent 19 years at the Saco Fire Department. He has 11 years of experience instructing CPR and has been the public education coordinator for nine years.
