Beginner Beekeeping

Check out what’s buzzing! During this informative workshop we will discuss what is needed to effectively manage and maintain bees for the entire first season including, the harvesting of your first honey crop. We’ll talk about beneficial flowering plants, honeybee breeds and attributes, life cycle of the honeybee and diseases and pests that affect them, the availability of honeybees and the needed equipment. Hands on participation will include learning how to assemble equipment, use the tools of a beekeeper and basic beehive inspection skills.

Start off the evening with a fun drawing prompt to get the creative juices flowing! Then Nick will introduce the main project of the evening, show you the supplies table, and let you start to create! NO ART EXPERIENCE NEEDED! He will walk around and check in as people need, but work at your own pace while using new age art supplies like cordless hot glue guns and light up tracing tablets! Follow his directions to create one of his sample animals OR go rogue and have fun creating, using the dried flowers and supplies provided! Walk away with a fully framed 12x12 unique piece of art! Nick Blunier is a full time special needs art teacher in Saco. His business Common Roots Studio is a local art gallery that is heavily engrained in the Biddeford community, providing many outreach programs for local Maine artists. All ticket sales help support Common Roots Community Outreach Programs and the Kittery & Marshwood Adult Education Academic/ESL Student Fund! This class will take place in the cafeteria so please feel free to arrive early at 5:30pm, bring food, drink (sorry no alcohol allowed) and make it a night out.

When you were a kid, did you enjoy playing with paper, scissors and glue?  If you did, you'll love this class.  Come and learn some fun multimedia techniques to create three greetings cards that you will take home with you.  The instructor will provide lots of "ephemera" to choose from, so all that you need to bring is a pair of paper scissors and your creativity! There'll be scrapbook papers, napkins, old cards to cut up, washi tape galore and lots of other really fun stuff to make your three cards.
