Get to Know Your Local Library - McArthur Library - Summer
with Nicole Clark, Old Orchard Beach/Saco Adult Education

McArthur Library was originally a local church but became a public library in the early 1900s. Explore modern resources while touring this historic building. You can borrow a telescope from your local library, start studying your family tree there, and learn about Biddeford's past by looking through old images and newspapers. Additionally, libraries provide you at-home access to tens of thousands of ebooks, audiobooks, and even movie streaming–all free of charge!
Preregistration required.
Nicole Clark, McArthur Library's Adult Services Supervisor, completed her online Masters of Library and Information Science through Simmons University. She is passionate about showing people all of the amazing resources that public libraries provide in the modern age, where they have transformed from simple book repositories to vibrant and engaging community hubs.
Mushroom and Wild Edible Plants Walk
with David Spahr, Five Town CSD Adult & Community Education

Come explore along a trail that the instructor has found to be an excellent mushrooming area. The class will also discuss commonly found wild edibles including nutritious greens, their uses, and their niche in the local ecology. This course involves some moderate hiking. The group will meet at the Rt. 17 parking lot for the Georges Highland Path trail.
Late Summer Plant Walk for All (Accessibility Focused)
with Laura Grover, Old Orchard Beach/Saco Adult Education

Slow down, be mindful, and carefully explore the urban wilds of Wabanaki land on the wheelchair-, walker-, and stroller-accessible Eastern Bike Trail in Saco. Take your time looking closely at plants and ecology on a small section of trail as you learn the names and gifts of trees and plants you might normally pass by. The trail is wide, mostly flat, and is paved, turning eventually into compressed sand. Registration closes at noon on 8/26. Wear comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. Meet at the trailhead behind Thornton Academy. If the Thornton Academy lot is gated, then additional parking is available on Clark Street by the trail entrance or Union St. Walk begins promptly at 4pm. Rain date 8/29, 4-5:30pm.

Laura Grover is a plant and bird hobbyist, botanical illustrator for Fedco Seeds, and a mindfulness ambassador. She has led many plant identification and mindful foraging walks for people of all ages. She enjoys bringing people together to look closely in nature, practice mindfulness outside, and be a sensory animal in the woods.

Golf for Beginners
with Ashton Benn, Five Town CSD Adult & Community Education

This course will focus on how to begin playing the game of golf. Each week will cover a different aspect of the game from basic rules, formats of play, and history of the sport through the fourth week playing a nine-hole round of golf. Along the way students will learn the mechanics of the golf swing, use of clubs, putting and chipping, and be introduced to the variety of golf equipment and apparel that is essential to playing the game. At the end of the course, students will feel confident in their game regardless of age, ability, and physique.
Dental Assisting, Option 3
with Academy of Medical Professions, RSU 19 Adult Education

12 week Certificate program in Dental Assisting for one of the most high-demand careers. This program is designed to teach all aspects of dental assistingand provide you with the skills you need to work in this field and pass a national certificate exam. This program is taught by a dentist and includes an opportunity for internships. We now offer an option for lab days, please ask for more details! The price of the course includes all books, exam preparation materials and fees for the DANB RHS certificate program. Upon passing the DANB RHS, you will receive a certificate of knowledge based on competency for that component from DANB. Payment plans are available.

Acadian Arts Asian Fusion Cooking Retreat

Your instructor, Chris Toy, is the author of 6 popular cookbooks, a private chef, and has taught Asian-fusion cooking for several Maine community education programs. Cooking students will learn how to prepare a variety of recipes from Asia, Europe, and the Americas incorporating traditional and local ingredients.
