Nature Walk with a Sketchbook

Explore nature through a series of art exercises designed to spark creativity and mindfulness. This all-levels class begins with a nature walk to gather inspiration and draw what we see in our sketchbooks, and finishes with longer art exercises in the studio. We’ll explore techniques for exploring the outdoors with all our senses, and drawing landscapes using watercolor pencils. Students will gain a variety of techniques for working quickly, accurately, and creatively, all while connecting to nature. Students can either buy themselves the required materials - the materials list is linked here - or they can buy material kits from the Mix, an art store in Brunswick (here is a link to a student-grade kit, and here is a link to an artist-grade kit). *Special Note: Meet at a nearby trailhead then go to Topsham location.

Outdoor Yoga

Enjoy the sights and sounds of nature while turning inward in this gentle movement class. Hatha yoga is accessible, and all experience levels are welcome, but is recommended for those who can easily move between reclined, seated, kneeling, and standing positions. Jessy will text by 8am IF class moved indoors (to Saco Learning Center) due to inclement weather. No class 6/21.

Wear loose, comfortable clothing, and bring a yoga mat, two yoga blocks (or thick books), a yoga strap (or long scarf), a blanket, water, and (optional) bug spray.

Jessy Lynn Ostara, a 500-hour certified yoga instructor, has years of experience teaching several movement modalities. Her concentration is in meditative belly dance, yin, hatha, and chair yoga. She is also a certified meditation teacher through the ShivaShakti School of Yoga and Healing Arts.

The Cornish Historical Society invites you to join us at Riverside Cemetery in Cornish to learn more about the mystique of gravestones, how to add to their care, and maybe some exciting history,too. Gary Mason, who has been trained by the MOCA (Maine Old Cemetery Assoc.) instructors, will demonstrate the proper cleaning techniques, the appropriate products to use, and the history of the stone itself.The class will begin at “The Town Lot” (called the Paupers’ Lot in the ol’ days) where the “Baby Indian” is buried. After that, the mystique will begin. Please pre-register for planning purposes.

 Dress up your kitchen with this functional and unique countertop paper towel dispenser.  Pattern and decorate it to fit in with your style or make it stand out as a statement piece.  Your dispenser will be glazed in your choice of color and ready for pick up approximately two weeks after class.  No previous clay experience is required for this class.  All tools and supplies will be provided by the clay studio.

This two hour course will beginwith a safety briefing and lesson covering the fundamentals ofrecreational kayaking. Using the EZ launching system at SebagoTrails Paddling, the tour will explore the water-carved bendsand twists of a meandering stream unveiling local wildlife in arustic backdrop. Then continue onto Jordan Bay of Sebago Lakeas the guides share stories dating back to the settlements of theSebago Lake region. Come for the beautiful lake views and leavewith your new favorite hobby! This is a great experience foranyone looking to get outdoors. Wild Food Foraging Walk

This two-hour course will include walking in the woods to find edible wild food along with detailed descriptions of plant habitat and structure of the plants. Bring: notebook and pen, basket, mesh or other bags, wax or brown paper bags, knife, bug repellant and hat, water or other refreshment and a snack, gloves, waterproof boots (preferred), tall socks into which you can tuck your pant legs. Optional: GPS, backpack, field guide, magnifying glass.

PLEASE NOTE: This walk will be along the Harrison Avenue Nature Trail. You must access Harrison Avenue from the Ash Street intersection (it is closed at the Rte 126 intersection). From Ash St. turn right onto Harrison and drive past the Road Closed sign to the parking area on the left side of the street. Meet either there or at the head of the trail.

Learn basic hand-building skills to create a unique microwave- and dishwasher-safe ceramic mug. We will explore slab, coil, and pinch techniques for basic construction, and experiment with adding a handle and creating designs with texture and carving. You'll complete this whirlwind of a workshop with 3 handmade mugs! All tools and materials will be provided. Class size is limited to 6 people, so plenty of one-on-one instruction will be available. $10 materials fee payable to the instructor.
