Driftwood Mobiles and Stabiles

Have you ever wondered how to create mobiles that spin and dance in the slightest breeze? Join Chris Toy and learn the secrets of how to connect and balance recycled driftwood and wire to make beautiful hanging mobiles and tabletop stabiles. Tools and materials will be provided but feel free to bring needle nose pliers, wire cutters, spare wire clothes hangers, and coin (quarter, half dollar, dollar) sized pieces of weathered driftwood. Chris Toy is a retired Maine educator, cooking instructor, author and Registered Maine Guide. He enjoys beach combing, where he finds his craft supplies. He creates rustic upcycled crafts by combing the coastline for driftwood, beach stone, and recycled wire from political signs. His work can be viewed on Facebook at Acadian Driftwood Arts.

Boat America is a National Association of Boating Law Administrators certificate class that offers an in-depth and interesting boating safety course, and provides the knowledge needed to obtain a boating certificate.
Some insurance companies will also offer discounts on boating insurance to boaters who successfully complete this course.
Introduction to Boating – Types of power boats, boating vocabulary, sailboats, paddle boats, powering boats, and engine types.

Cooking the Taste of Cajun and Creole

Have you ever been curious about Cajun and Creole cuisine? It has amazing origins from several cultures. Jordan Benissen of Me Lon Togo recently added these cuisines to his menu to great success. You will learn the history and culture of this food with possible dishes such as Whole Red Snapper with Red Beans and Rice and Jambalaya, Gumbo, Cioppino (a stew which can include lobster, scallops, king crab legs, shrimp, basil, parsley, fennel, oregano, crushed red pepper, shallots, garlic, a vegetable white wine broth with tomato paste and fresh tomatoes), or the classic New Orleans dish, Étouffée.

Fly Fishing 101 5.15.24

Learn the basics of fly casting in this hands-on workshop. We will cover rods, reels and lines and what you will need to get started. In addition to the casting lesson we will cover the basic knots used, fly selections and how to fish them. We will also learn to read the stream or river you are fishing to find the most likely places to catch fish. The third lesson will continue with a stream side lesson on the St. George River on Saturday, June 1st. This will be optional to participants and weather dependent.
