This class is a crossover between the pastel painting atelier and the portrait classes. Pastels are a beautiful medium for portraits, and we’ll be discussing color mixing strategies and how to use our mark making to lead the eye around the face and enhance the illusion of depth. The minimum materials list for this class is an artist-grade set of soft pastels (portrait colors), and pastel paper. Contact the instructor if you have any questions (ed_higgins@icloud.com). Class runs in an open-studio style format. *No Class: 12/26, 1/2, 2/20.
Architectural Scenes in Ink and Watercolor

This indoor class will be good prep for any urban sketching excursions you may plan featuring street scenes and buildings. The minimum materials list for this class is a sketchbook and pencils, erasers, a set of artist grade watercolors and brushes, drawing pens with waterproof ink and/or dip pens and bottled ink. Contact the instructor if you have any questions (ed_higgins@icloud.com). Class runs in an open-studio style format. *No Class: 12/26, 1/2, 2/20.

Yin Yoga w/ Heather
with Heather Laffely, Merrymeeting Community & Adult Education
Yin yoga is a style of yoga where passive yoga posture(poses) are held for extended periods of time. Typically 3-5 min., sometimes longer. In these passive postures, muscle activity is minimized, with a focus on stretching connective tissues, such as fascia, ligaments and tendons. We will gently settle into postures, supported by yoga props, while deeply connecting to breath. These longer holds allow the muscles to lengthen passively and for physical releases under the skin to occur. This practice supports overall flexibility, circulation, and range of motion in the joints and ligaments. It also is a practice in mindfulness, as conscious breathing occurs, quieting the mind and supporting nervous system health. This class is for those new to yoga, as well as seasoned yogis looking for a deep stretch. Yoga blocks/bolster are encouraged if you have them, otherwise the teacher has props to use during class. *No Class: 10/13.
