Hand Printed Napkins

NOTE: This class has been rescheduled from September to October 16 and 23rd and will meet from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.
Dive into the creative world of fabric design and create personalized hand-printed napkins. This beginner-friendly course is designed for those eager to explore the traditional art of block printing combined with the magic of fabric embellishment. Over two engaging sessions, participants will learn the skills needed to hand carve their chosen motifs and transform plain cotton napkins of their color choice into beautiful family heirlooms. A $45 materials fee is due to the instructor immediately following registration and is non-refundable after material orders are placed.
Introduction to Zentangle®
with Irene Burgess, Merrymeeting Community & Adult Education

Learn the Zentangle method for mindful drawing and create your own art even if you don’t think you are an artist. Using the Zentangle motto of “anything is possible one stroke at a time,” you’ll learn simple pen strokes that will open up doors to creative pattern-making for relaxation, creativity, and focus. In this introduction, Irene Burgess, certified Zentangle teacher, will provide you the basics of the method in a stress-reducing atmosphere designed to make you appreciate your own creativity. All supplies needed will be provided.
Fall Pinecone Wreaths

Create an all-natural fall pinecone wreath without using any glue or wire. Using a simple metal frame and Mother Nature’s own magic, you will learn how to sort and prepare your pinecones and easily bring them together to form a large, beautiful fall wreath ready for indoor display or to adorn your front door. Finish your wreath with the autumn-hued ribbon of your choice. Wreath materials are included – just bring 2 large old towels.

Make Your Own Coffee Mug
with Janna DeWan, Merrymeeting Community & Adult Education

Learn basic hand-building techniques to create a unique, microwave- and dishwasher-safe ceramic mug. We’ll explore pinch, coil, and slab construction, experiment with handles, and add surface design through texture and carving. Glazing will be done later by Janna or by participants. All materials included; $20 materials fee payable to the instructor. No experience necessary.
Mindfulness Mini-Retreat: Be Here Now

A calming 2-hour retreat to reconnect with your breath, your body, and this present moment. Experience mindfulness practices that bring clarity, ease, and spaciousness to your day. Whether you're new to mindfulness or returning to your practice, this session offers a grounding pause from daily busyness. Activities include: Guided mindfulness meditations, Gentle movement or mindful walking, Journaling and quiet reflection, Group discussion, and shared insights. Please bring: a yoga mat, a journal, and anything that helps you feel cozy and supported.

Hand Stamped Interactive Greeting Card: Halloween Fortune Teller

In this class, we will follow step by step instructions to create an interactive greeting card. You will leave with a not so spooky fortune teller tabby card! There is a turnable wheel that reveals different sayings in the crystal ball. We will also make a Halloween treat holder to give to a special someone. Precut kits and envelopes are provided. Participants need a pair of scissors and colored pencils or markers.

Joy of Watercolor
with Deena Ball, Merrymeeting Community & Adult Education

This class is designed for intermediate watercolorists. While you do not need to be an advanced student, you should be familiar with your supplies, art terms and comfortable painting with professional watercolor materials. The course accommodates various skill levels while maintaining a focus on fundamental techniques. The first hour of each class features instruction and hands-on exercises related to the week's topic. Students will also explore the work of contemporary and historical watercolorists. During the second hour, students work on personal projects with individual guidance. You may choose between a quick project focused on the day's topic or continue developing a longer-term piece. Materials list will be provided by the instructor.
