Becoming a Hospice Volunteer Presentation

Would you like to make an impact on your community? Have you been touched by hospice? Join me for this 1 hour presentation (and question and answer time) as I provide all the needed information on how to become a hospice volunteer. We will discuss what volunteers do, what you can expect, the benefits of volunteering and the mandated requirements. Andwell Health Partners is the best and only non-profit hospice in the area. We offer our volunteers mileage reimbursement, monthly social gatherings, continuing education and many ways to volunteer. We have visiting volunteers, phone support, bereavement, administrative and retail volunteers in our thrift stores. The Best Medicine is Love and Support, and if you agree, please join our amazing volunteer team. Bring a tablet, laptop or even smartphone if you would like to get started immediately. Coastal Navigation Fundamentals (Level 1)

Learn the basics of coastal navigation using local charts, parallel ruler, and dividers. Learn what the symbols mean, how to determine safe and dangerous routes, create courses, learn rules of the “road”, what aids to navigation look like and do, plan for emergencies and more. For kayakers, sailors, powerboaters, and future Registered Maine Guides. Students will need access to either a Casco Bay Chart or Penobscot Bay Chart, parallel ruler and dividers. This course is offered via Zoom over two sessions. This is a LEVEL 1 program.

Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra is a meditative yoga practice, also known as "yogic sleep", that encourages a consciousness residing between sleep and awake. It is a guided meditation that focuses on relaxation and/or conscious dreaming. The class is practiced laying down, comfortable and supported with props, where the mind, body and senses are guided by the instructor into a physiological state of rest. Yoga nidra offers a break from the sensory overload often induced by busy life, screens and media. Among the many health benefits associated with yoga nidra are: improved sleep quality, stress-reduction, enhanced cognitive function, and a general sense of well-being. No previous experience necessary.

This is a Drawing Workshop & Hands-On Asian Fusion Culinary Adventure on Merrymeeting Bay. Escape to Maine for a unique retreat where you get to try both drawing and hands-on Asian Fusion cooking! Truly embody Making Art & Sharing Food on the scenic shores of Merrymeeting Bay. Join drawing instructor Mary Laury to learn the art of seeing and translating observations to paper. Then, with chef Chris Toy, dive into hands-on culinary exploration, where everyone gets to eat the delicious creations! Join Catherine for this 1 night class to learn new ways to incorporate mixed media techniques in your work. Create depth, texture and interest with gouache, fluid acrylic, colored pencils, watercolor pencils, dual tipped markers and posca pens (and more). Class will start with a refresher on color and techniques covered in previous levels and then transition to discuss new ways to think about layers while introducing various mixed media supplies. We will spend the rest of class playing with a variety of materials to incorporate new and old techniques to complete a fun and uplifting illustration. Materials fee: $20.

This gentle class is for those looking to stretch, connect to the breath and practice traditional yoga postures, at a slow pace. We gently and safely encourage our muscle tissues to deeply lengthen and stretch, increasing range of motion and flexibility. Conscious intention and awareness are given to the breath, strengthening the nervous system and deepening the connection to mind and body. This class is designed for new, as well as, seasoned yogis looking for a mindful, gentle practice.

Learn to play the ukulele! It has never been more popular and you don't even have to know how to read music! On the uke you can knock out folk music, rock, blues, jazz, pop, country, tunes old and new -- even classical music. Duncan Perry, who has taught more than 1,000 students of all ages, will introduce you to essential chords and playing techniques using commonly known songs. Oh, and there are lots of laughs along the way. And, learning to play an instrument is good for your brain! You will need a playable ukulele and an electronic tuner or a tuner app. And when folks hear you play this happy instrument, well, they just have to smile!
