Life Drawing Meetup

Join Ed Higgins for a FREE Life Drawing class! Work from live (clothed) models to develop and reinforce drawing skills related to the human form.

Introduction to Zentangle®
with Irene Burgess, Merrymeeting Community & Adult Education
Learn the Zentangle method for mindful drawing and create your own art even if you don’t think you are an artist. Using the Zentangle motto of “anything is possible one stroke at a time,” you’ll learn simple pen strokes that will open up doors to creative pattern-making for relaxation, creativity, and focus. In this introduction, Irene Burgess, certified Zentangle teacher, will provide you the basics of the method in a stress-reducing atmosphere designed to make you appreciate your own creativity. All supplies needed will be provided.
Drawing Fundamentals
with Michael Branca, Merrymeeting Community & Adult Education
Whether you are a complete beginner or looking to brush up on previous skills, this is the drawing class for you. Working in a variety of media, we will cover all of the basics: line, shape, value, proportion, composition, perspective and markmaking. Particular focus is placed on observational skills, learning how to translate the 3-dimensional world onto a 2-dimensional surface. A materials list will be provided after registration. *This session is 8 weeks.
Greek Night

Admit it - winter in Maine can get l o n g! All the more reason to take a trip to the Greek Isles in this new one night culinary adventure! We will make classic Lemon chicken soup (Avgolemono) Phyllo feta & spinach triangles (Spanakopita) and sample olives and cheeses typical to the islands. Bring an apron and containers to take home baked goods and a jar with lid to take home extra soup. All materials included.
Play the Ukulele, Your Journey Begins Here

Learn to play the ukulele! It has never been more popular and you don't even have to know how to read music! On the uke you can knock out folk music, rock, blues, jazz, pop, country, tunes old and new -- even classical music. Duncan Perry, who has taught more than 700 students of all ages, will introduce you to essential chords and playing techniques using commonly known songs. Oh, and there are lots of laughs along the way. And, learning to play an instrument is good for your brain! You will need a playable ukulele and an electronic tuner or a tuner app. And when folks hear you play this happy instrument, well, they just have to smile! Weather for Outdoor Enthusiasts

Learn how to integrate weather forecasts and your own reading of the weather signs to plan ahead and to best manage your outdoor activities - walking, biking, hiking, camping, paddling, boating, playing and exercising. Learn from a Master Maine Guide & Total Weather Spotter. Course is presented via Zoom.
America's Boating Course

The most comprehensive in-person boating course available, America’s Boating Course, gives you the skills you need to enjoy your time on the water and boat with confidence. Our boater safety class meets most states’ certification requirements. Taking a boating class reduces your risk of accidents and injuries, saves you money on boat insurance, and qualifies you for a state boat license or operator certificate in most states. Our in-person boating course includes a comprehensive introduction to boating, covering boat types, boat engines, boat selection, and more. You’ll learn about boating laws and regulations as well as boat registration and licensing. Get in-depth knowledge of boating safety equipment, and learn how to become a safe boater by learning the dos and don’ts of boater safety. Gain practical knowledge of navigation, rules of the road, handling emergencies and mechanical problems on the water, the basics of towing and trailering, important information for hunters, anglers, water sports enthusiasts, and so much more. Four sessions with a NASBLA approved examination. The cost for couples sharing materials is $95. Please call Merrymeeting Adult Education for the couples discount. No other discounts. ***Class will meet on the following Tuesdays & Thursdays: 4/28, 4/30, 5/5, 5/7, & 5/12 (exam day). This program is presented by U.S. Power Squadron.
Improv for the Heart

This six week class uses the skills and exercises of Improvisational Theater to develop a deeper sense of connection to self and others through the art of embodied play. Relaxing into the entry point of tuning into our creative selves, we will expand into collaborative performance for each other by sharing our imaginations together. This will include exploring character creation, storytelling and intuitive movement along with just getting to know each other and healing ourselves through shared laughter and emotional release. Elise Voigt is an actor and theater educator with over 20 years of experience and loves sharing her skills and knowledge with adults and children as a journey of self-discovery and self-renewal. No experience necessary! Come out and Play!
