Foundations in Genealogy Research

This course covers basic genealogy concepts for researching and documenting one's ancestors. What is a genealogy brick wall and how do you break it? This course will offer key ideas on solving even the toughest research barriers. Topics include: general ideas to get started, where and how to find key genealogy records, paper and digital organization strategies, using online databases and resources, where to go in the community to research family history. One class meeting may include a field trip to a research site.

Learn how fermentation works, why it’s such a powerful preservation method, and how it fits into Maine’s local food systems. Projects range from observational (still life, portrait, etc.) to experimental, with particular focus on understanding paint mixing to achieve the colors you see. Museum Sketchbook: Colby

Bring a sketchbook and pencil and join us for an afternoon of drawing in one of Maine's fabulous art museums. Forge an intimate connection with museum collections, while improving your own work by studying the techniques of the masters. Guidance and critical feedback are provided as needed. At the end of our visit, we will meet up to share our results with the group. Museum admission is included in fee. Location: Colby College Museum of Art in Waterville. Participants will meet at the museum.
