Culinary Industry Career Exploration Track

Did you know that the food service industry is among those industries that are expected to gain the largest number of jobs in Mainebetween 2016 and 2026? This track will help you learn about job opportunities and career-planning related to the food service industry; improve basic math, reading, writing, speaking/presentation, critical thinking, problem-solving, interpersonal and organizational skills, and technology/computer skills needed to enter and succeed in such jobs/careers; and begin the process of applying to jobs, college classes or programs related to the food service/restaurant industry.
When you register, Soni will contact you to schedule your registration meeting, assessment, and goal setting meeting. Rolling admission.
Customer Service

Review the skills needed to increase customer service effectiveness and decrease stress in the workplace. Learn customer contact and management skills, internal and external customer satisfaction, and conflict resolution. Guided independent study course online. Call to express interest. Fee: $75.

Healthcare Career Exploration Track

The healthcare industry is one of the fastest growing industries in Maine and is expected to generate the largest number of jobs in Maine between 2016 and 2026. Would you like to explore a career in healthcare/healthcare administration? This track will help you learn about job opportunities and career-planning related to different types of healthcare services in a variety of settings; improve your math, reading, writing, verbal communication, and computer skills tailored for health-care professionals; learn about the social aspects of health and illness; develop the interpersonal, organizational, and soft skills that will help you enter and succeed in a healthcare-related job/career.
Keyboarding

TechHire and Information Technology

Are you interested in a career in Information Technology? TechHire is a program designed to recruit, assess, train and place young adults into Maine’s IT industry in positions like computer support specialist, software, and health informatics. Completed training will result in credentials recognized by the IT industry. This grant funded program provides a host of services to train young adults as well as career changers who are looking to transition into IT roles. Basic Computer Literacy-Northstar Testing & Training
This comprehensive assessment will let you know if you have the computer skills needed to be successful in school, work and at home. After testing, if you need to improve your skills, we can help you design a learning plan, either with a class or with personalized online lessons you can do from your own home!
IC3 Digital Literacy Certification
Show the world you can compete in the highly competitive digital age! This nationally recognized certification is made up of three assessments: Computing Fundamentals, Key Applications, and Living Online. IC3 Global Standard 5(GS5) is a comprehensive solution for succeeding in any environment requiring computers, devices, or the Internet.
Writing in the Workplace

This class is an independent study designed to help students develop and improve writing skills: reviewing grammar, word usage, verb tenses, and sentence structure as well as planning, composing and revising various types of employment-related writing. Use Microsoft Word to compose emails, memos, letters, resumes and proposals. Pre-requisite: Microsoft Word or instructor permission. Online class. Call to express interest. Fee: $75.

Career Readiness
with Christa Galipeau, MSAD#1 Adult & Community Education

Career Readiness is a work place preparation course designed to organize an individual for the necessary skills for successful job searching. Course focus is designed to fill out job applications, write resumes and cover letters, and learn soft skills when joining the workforce. Course will have guest speakers that work in human resources, field trips to job fairs, and learning what skills employers are looking for.
