Medical Assistant Training Application

SAD1 Adult & Community Education, Northern Light AR Gould Hospital and Academy of Medical Professions have teamed up to offer this amazing "Earn While You Learn" program.
Medical Assistants work alongside providers, mainly in outpatient facilities, such as medical offices and clinics. They form both administrative and clinical duties, such as welcoming patients, updating patient medical records, taking medical histories, taking blood pressures and temperatures, preparing patients for exams, assisting the provider during exams, collecting lab specimens and much more. MAs are an essential part of a patient care team, helping patients feel at ease and serving as a vital link between patients and providers.
Northern Light AR Gould Hospital in Presque Isle will hire students and pay them a wage while they complete a full-time, nine-week training program. The program will include classroom learning, labs, and clinical rotations. Curriculum is provided by the Academy of Medical Professionals and students will be able to sit for a certification exam to become a Certified MA. Those who successfully complete the course will be guaranteed a job within one of Northern Light AR Gould's medical group offices.

Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) & Personal Support Specialist (PSS) Dual Certification

We are excited to offer a new CNA program where you will also obtain your PSS Certification!
The course provides necessary theory and skills to obtain employment as a Personal Support Specialist or Certified Nurse Assistant. Applications must be submitted to the SAD 1 Adult & Community Education office. All applicants will go through an interview process before being accepted into the program.
Class will be held three days per week (TBD) for approximately eight weeks.
Cost includes book, pin, CPR training, criminal background check, and State exam fee.

AMP Dental Assistant

This is a 10-week certificate program in Dental Assisting, one of the most high-demand careers. This program is designed to teach all aspects of dental assisting and provide you the skills you need to work in this field and pass a national certificate exam. This program is taught by a dentist and includes an opportunity for internships.
The $2500 fee for the course includes all books, exam preparation materials and fees for the DANB RHS certificate program. Upon passing the DANB RHS, you will receive a certificate of knowledge based on competency for that component from DANB. Payment plans available.

American Red Cross Adult First Aid & CPR/AED Online Certification
While MDI Adult Ed is unable to offer in person First Aid & CPR courses during the pandemic, we are committed to sharing courses offered by our partners and other organizations. If you need any help connecting or preparing for this workshop, we are happy to support you!
This course will prepare you to recognize and care for a variety of emergencies. If you're taking this course to meet OSHA requirements, please check with your workplace to determine if this online-only course is acceptable. The course features award-winning simulation learning, an interactive experience where you will respond to real-world emergencies in a virtual setting to help prepare you to recognize and respond to first aid, breathing and cardiac emergencies involving adults.
This course requires a PC or tablet with a high speed internet connection, does not work with Internet Explorer, and is not supported on smartphones. Allow approximately 2 hours 10 minutes to complete the course.
Certification: Red Cross courses offer Digital Certification - an online version of a Red Cross certificate, which provides anytime, anywhere access to student training history and course certificates. Digital certificates can be viewed, printed or shared online and can be accessed anytime through your Red Cross Account. Each certificate includes a unique ID and a QR code which meets employment requirements and allows employers to easily confirm your certificate is valid. There is no need to carry your printed certificate around anymore!
Continuing Education: Nurses, social workers, teachers and daycare providers and other professionals who need continuing education units to maintain licensure or certification can obtain CEUs through American Red Cross Training Services.

Behavior Health Professional (BHP) Certification Training
with Woodford's Family Services, Washington County Adult & Community Education
Our community is looking for individuals who want to make a difference in a child’s life. Children’s Behavioral Health Services are vital to Maine’s children with Intellectual Disabilities, Autism and Mental Health Disorders and their families. In addition, the need in our area is great! As an integral part of the child’s treatment team, a Certified Behavioral Health Professional (BHP) has the opportunity to make an immediate impact while helping a child grow and develop to their full potential. We are excited to connect our community with Woodfords Family Service for this wonderful ONLINE training program. The training will prepare you for employment through local social services agencies. The program can be started at any time and finished at your own pace. You will complete 12 online modules then two 4-hour live sessions. Once the modules are completed, you will receive free online blood borne pathogen training and virtual First Aid & CPR training if you do not already possess those certifications.
The entire training requirements will take about 45 hours. Any individual who will be 18 years of age or older upon completion of the course may register.
You will be required to show proof of having your high school diploma or equivalency.
Administration fee: $25.

Certified Clinical Medical Assistant Program - CCMA Interest List

For students who want to prepare for an exciting, challenging and rewarding career in healthcare. This program trains students to assist physicians by performing functions related to the clinical responsibilities of a medical office. Instruction includes preparing patients for examination and treatment, routine laboratory procedures, diagnostic testing, technical aspects of phlebotomy and the cardiac life cycle. Includes hands on labs and a clinical externship opportunity at a local healthcare provider. To be eligible for clinical rotation, students must successfully complete the 140 hour program, submit to a thorough background check, drug screening and meet other requirements. Note: Upon successful completion of this program, students are eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) national examination.

If you are seeking a challenging and rewarding career in the medical field, this course will provide you with the skills and experiences to be Maine State Certified as a Nursing Assistant. This regional collaboration has allowed us to offer this course at a reduced cost! Skills will be taught in an interactive classroom setting, and a two-week clinical experience will follow. The course will focus on nursing theory and application, including basic anatomy, physiology, and clinical performance. The course will also introduce you to several employers within our region. Prerequisites: students must successfully pass the CASAS testing and interview screening in order to be admitted to the program. Applicants are encouraged to job shadow a CNA before interviewing. Documentation of a recent medical physical, conducted and signed by a physician, is required before clinical. Students must produce evidence of the following vaccinations: Hep B1, MMR, Tetanus, Chicken Pox, TB and flu shot. Fee for background check is non-refundable.
