Learn more about our Fall 2021 CNA PLUS program.  Ellsworth Adult Education is offering the CNA program with two complementary certificates - WorkReady and Northstar Digital Literacy - starting the first week in October.  Here's the attachment for the draft Ellsworth Adult Education CNA PLUS Schedule Fall 2021.   

At this session, you will learn about the:

  • curriculum, materials, classses, labs, and clinical sessions;
  • course schedule;
  • requirements and timeline for admissions;
  • student expectations for the course, and more.

This 60 hour course prepares participants to work in home health care or residential settings. Personal care, communication skills, observing, reporting and documentation, how to provide care safely and deal with emergencies, consumer rights, aging and illness are among the topics taught. State certification is awarded upon successful completion of skill components and written exam. This course will be held at Comfort Keepers in Scarborough with an onsite clinical at a local facility. This is a grant funded course provided by Maine Department of Education to Cumberland County Adult Education programs. English Language Learners enrolling should have a CASAS Reading score of at least 5. Please contact our office at 730-5040 for an application.

Looking for a new career?  Interested in changing the lives of those around you?  How about a part-time career or to get paid to work out?  This program is designed to teach you everything you need to know to enter the health and fitness field as a group fitness instructor and/or personal trainer.  Our trainers are highly recognized in this field, with more than 20 years experience, and will provide you hands-on training to pass the national tests through AFAA.  The program is all-inclusive.  You may choose to complete both group fitness and personal training, or take one or the other.  Lectures are once a week for 10 or 20 weeks.  $1,500 or $3,000 for both.  All materials included in the fee including National Certification Exams.

Students enrolled in this Certificate program complete 180 hours of classroom, laboratory, and clinical experience, which meet all state licensing requirements. Upon successful completion of the course and passage of the State Competency Exam, the student will be eligible to enter the healthcare field as a Certified Nursing Assistant under the direction of a licensed nurse. Classroom instruction will be delivered via Zoom. Clinical and lab instruction will be held onsite at Scarborough High School, Piper Shores in Scarborough, and at The Cedars in Portland.

Classes held Monday & Thursday: 3-7pm. Clinicals and classroom on Saturdays, 8am-12pm

Contact Tracing

According to the Medscape Coronavirus Resource Center, at least 44 states and the District of Columbia have begun expanding their contact tracing workforce. To help meet the need for training for contact tracers, we are offering this course based on CDC and public health guidelines.

This contact tracer training will provide you with a skill which is in demand on the job market. While taking this training does not guarantee that you will become employed as a contact tracer, the information and skills you learn in the course will provide you with skills necessary to be considered for employment.
