Certified Residential Medication Aide (CRMA) via Zoom

CRMAs are in high demand! They work with people who need medications including but not limited to older adults, adults with disabilities, persons with mental illness, and persons with intellectual disabilities. They can work in residential care, assisted living and adult day settings.
The responsibilities of a Certified Residential Medication Aide (CRMA) include administering medications in a safe, proper, and accurate manner, recording and documenting the administration of medications, reporting incidents, sustaining knowledge of Resident Rights, while maintaining patient confidentiality.
This 40-hour course provides the standardized State of Maine training for professionals working in state-certified residential care homes. It covers: State of Maine regulations, standard residential facility policies, basic anatomy and physiology, safe administration procedures, taking vital signs, transcribing physician orders, and documenting procedures on the Medication Administration Record per Maine’s regulations governing residential facilities.
Certification awarded on successful completion of the course, successful medication passes in clinical, and 40 hours of required attendance. Participants must be 18 or older. No high school credential required.
This class meets via Zoom:
Tu/Th evenings 5:30-8:30p on 3/12, 14, 19 & 21 plus
Sa/Su days 8am-4:30p 3/23 & 24
Clinical in person on Sa 3/30 from 6:30a-3pm - location to be announced
Re-certification is required every 2 years.

Medical Coding with CPC Certification

This is an online course. You can also start this class at these dates or anytime.
20-week, in-depth medical coding for CPC certification through AAPC. This program is designed to teach all aspects of medical coding, provide you with the skills needed to become nationally certified and get into the job market as a Certified Professional Coder. This certificate program includes Medical Terminology, Anatomy and physiology, Step-by-step coding, CPC-A exam, AAPC membership, 3 practice CPC tests, and all books. Basic computer skills are required.
Online only with Live One-on-One sessions with the instructor through Zoom twice weekly.

Clinical Medical Assistant Training Application

SAD1 Adult & Community Education and Northern Light AR Gould Hospital have teamed up to offer this amazing "Earn While You Learn" program.
Clinical Medical Assistants work alongside providers, mainly in outpatient facilities, such as medical offices and clinics. They form both administrative and clinical duties, such as welcoming patients, updating patient medical records, taking medical histories, taking blood pressures and temperatures, preparing patients for exams, assisting the provider during exams, collecting lab specimens and much more. Clinical MAs are an essential part of a patient care team, helping patients feel at ease and serving as a vital link between patients and providers.
Northern Light AR Gould Hospital in Presque Isle will hire students and pay them a wage while they complete a full-time, approx 14 weeks of training program. The program will include classroom learning, labs, and clinical rotations. Curriculum is provided by the Academy of Medical Professionals and students will be able to sit for a certification exam to become a Certified Clinical MA. Those who successfully complete the course will be guaranteed a job within one of Northern Light AR Gould's medical group offices.

Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers
with Andrew Eckman, Midcoast Adult & Community Education
This program ensures that individuals with a duty to respond (public safety professionals, healthcare providers, and others) have the knowledge and skills necessary to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies. The participant will learn one- and two-rescuer CPR, multiple rescuer response, and how to use an AED and clear an obstructed airway for adult, child, and infant patients. Participants will learn how to check both a conscious and unconscious patient, and how to give effective ventilations to a patient experiencing a cardiac and/or respiratory arrest, including using a resuscitation mask and bag-valve-mask (BVM) resuscitator. This program is accepted for continuing education credit by CAPCE and NREMT for EMS personnel, and by AGD/PACE for dental providers; the State of Maine accepts the program credits for licensing requirements for pharmacists and other licensed healthcare professionals. This program does not include a first aid component.

Certified Nursing Assistant

Students enrolled in this certificate program complete 150 hours of classroom, laboratory, and clinical experience, meeting all state licensing requirements. Upon successful completion of the course and passage of the State Competency Exam, students will be eligible to enter the healthcare field under the direction of a licensed nurse. Students must be at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or the equivalent, and have a CASAS Reading score of 238 or above. Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers
with Andrew Eckman, Central Lincoln County Adult Education
NOTE: This course does NOT contain a first aid component. There will be concise, current information given on what signs to look for and what treatment steps to take during an emergency, including how to perform CPR and use an AED, resuscitation mask, and bag-valve-mask resuscitator. We will cover bloodborne and airborne diseases, including precautions to take in response to COVID-19. We will also focus on soft skills, with additional coverage related to team-based resuscitation. MUST ATTEND ALL CLASS SESSIONS.
Andrew Eckman recently retired after 45 years in emergency services (police, fire, EMS and emergency management). He has been a medical instructor for more than 30 years, and has trained several thousand participants in various life-saving skills.
