Medical Assistants are responsible for a variety of medical office tasks from administrative to technical and scientific duties and must have quality human relations skills. Some of the job duties include cleaning and dressing wounds, taking blood samples, administering medications, taking vitals, preparing a patient for EKGs, obtaining a patient's history, and assisting physicians during examinations. Our program provides virtual reality style classroom work as well as traditional style teaching for a blended learning experience. Practicals are performed during the program to ensure that the student has proper techniques and will be ready to pass the National Certification. Upon completion of the program, you will sit for your CCMA (Clinical Certified Medical Assistant) national certification exams through NHA . $3000 includes national certification, 6 practice exams, online study guide materials, books, resume assistance, and all other associated fees. Externships may be available in your area. Payment plans are available.

Calendar Feb 1, 2020 at 8 am, runs for 20 weeks

CNAs are caregivers who provide patients assistance with activities of daily living and basic needs. They also help patients feel safe and comfortable throughout their hospital stay. These direct caregivers spend most of their time assisting patients and listening to their concerns.

The State of Maine approved CNA course includes classroom work, skills labs, and clinical experience. This is a 20-week, 180 hour course: 110 classroom hours (Saturdays) and 70 clinical hours (Saturdays and evenings). Our course includes additional academic support for those who need or want it. At the successful completion of the course, students take the State Certification Examination. Course cost includes the State Certification Examination and cost of the background check.

Admission process includes scheduling an orientation appointment to complete application materials and required reading assessment. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalency (or be working towards their diploma). Immunizations and background checks are required.

Please call for an orientation appointment, which must be scheduled on or before 1/18/20 to secure your registration.

Medications course follows standardized curriculum approved by the Maine State Board of Nursing. The purpose of this course is to teach experienced certified nurses assistants to administer selected noninjectable medications to patients who are 4 years of age and older. This standardized medication course will provide the basis of understanding needed for the certified nursing assistant (CNA) to administer medications accurately and safely.

Prerequisite: Reading score 244, worked as a CNA for 2,080 hours.

Below is information regarding the CNA course which will be open for registration after orientation.  The cost for the course is $800.  Class dates are September 16, 2019, to January 15, 2020.  Classes will be held at the Sanford Regional Technical Center at the new Sanford High School.

CNAs are caregivers who provide patients assistance with activities of daily living and basic needs. They also help patients feel safe and comfortable throughout their hospital stay. These direct caregivers spend most of their time assisting patients and listening to their concerns. The State of Maine approved CNA course includes classroom work, skills labs, and clinical experience. Candidates must present either a high school diploma, or HiSET/GED. Enrollment is limited to 10. The admission process includes enrollment into our Career Readiness Program, a criminal background check, placement testing, and a series of meetings with PVAEC staff. A non-refundable application fee of $50 is required. The cost of the class is $1,150, which includes tuition, textbook, background check, and state exam.
