Behavior Health Professional Certification Training

Our community is looking for individuals who want to make a difference in a child’s life. Children’s Behavioral Health Services are vital to Maine’s children with Intellectual Disabilities, Autism and Mental Health Disorders and their families. And the need in our area is great! As an integral part of the child’s treatment team, a Certified Behavioral Health Professional (BHP) has the opportunity to make an immediate impact while helping a child grow and develop to their full potential. We are excited to connect our community to this wonderful ONLINE training program. The online training will equip you to help children who are receiving Behavioral Health services. The training will prepare you for employment through local social services agencies. The program can be started at any time and finished at your own pace. You will complete 12 online modules and 12 hours of live instruction (offered virtually). An online Bloodborne Pathogens training, as well as Child & Adult First Aid & CPR training, will be made available to you, if you do not already possess those certifications. The entire training takes about 45 hours to complete. Registration is ongoing until June 30, 2022. Any individual who will be 18 years of age or older upon completion of the course, may register. (Individuals must be at least 18 and have a high school diploma or equivalent to get certified.) See Blended Learning Curriculum at Woodfords Family Service for more information.

Alice Haiss Scholarship Fund

Alice Haiss of Skowhegan worked as an adult education teacher for many years as part of the Somerset County Basic Skills Program.  She was a literacy, basic skills, GED Preparation and English as a Second Language teacher at the program's Learning Center.  She also taught GED Preparation, basic and life skills at the Somerset County Jail for years.  During that period, she took part in a federal grant project called the Esteem Machine that combined the teaching of life skills with academic skills.

Haiss also worked for Educational Skills, Inc., where she facilitated Project Resiliency, and intervention program to prevent female juvenile offenders from being incarcerated at a youth correctional center.  The program focused on the development of problem solving, communication, team-building, and self-esteem building.

This scholarship will benefit any adult education learner who are pursuing education or training in high demand, high skill, or high wage occupations.

Awards will be announced yearly at the Adult Education Graduation in June.

Introduction to Hospitality (Customer Service 101)

This survey of the hospitality industry will cover history, current practices in customer service, future of the industry, restaurant/food service operations, hotel/motel management, travel/tourism, managing in the service industry, operations management and personnel leadership.

This 3 credit Husson University course is available to adults who enroll in SAD 1 Adult Education for only $100. Adult may take up to 2 Husson courses (6 credits) at this cost!

This Husson Univeristy course supplies prospective and current small business managers with the essential concepts of starting and operating small businesses. Topics covered include: environment and management of small business enterprise, problems in starting small businesses, financial and administrative control, and management of business operations. Students will share their own experiences in small businesses (new or future plans) with their fellow students.

Communication is a vital function of any business. Managers at all levels must be able to communicate effectively to advance their career and ensure the success of their organization. This course will give students a working knowledge of how to create, brief, and present information across the organizational communications spectrum. Students will learn how to think critically and apply problem solving skills across a variety of historical and contemporary business topics. Students will learn how to collect, analyze, synthesize, and present information in a professional manner to assorted audiences in different venues. The foundational skill set developed in this course is the ability for students to articulate their ideas in a professional manner within a variety of business settings.

We are excited to connect our communities with Woodfords Family Services for this wonderful ONLINE training program. The online training will equip you to successfully help children who are currently on a waitlist for services. The training will prepare you for employment through local social services agencies. The program can be started at any time and finished at your own pace. Call MCST Adult Ed at 596-7752 x.3 to enroll or for more info. You will complete 12 online modules and 12 hours of live instruction (offered virtually). Once the modules are completed, you will receive free online bloodborne pathogen training and virtual First Aid & CPR training if you do not already possess those certifications. The entire training requirements will take about 45 hours. Assistance with job placement is provided to anyone who completes the program. Assistance with technology may be available. Prerequisites: A high school diploma or equivalency. Proof of education is required. Must be 18 years of age or older upon completion of the course. An administration fee of $25 is required at registration. A reading comprehension assessment is required prior to completing the application, administered through your local Maine Adult Education program.
