Course content covers classroom behavior management and methods for creating a safe learning environment through case study analysis, writing, discussion and role plays. Students will learn about how Education Technicians work with teachers. This course is part of the Education Academy Certificate Program. Prior approval is required. CNAs are caregivers who provide patients assistance with activities of daily living and basic needs. They also help patients feel safe and comfortable throughout their hospital stay. These direct caregivers spend most of their time assisting patients and listening to their concerns.

The State of Maine approved CNA course includes classroom work, skills labs, and clinical experience. This is a 20-week, 180 hour course: 110 classroom hours (Saturdays) and 70 clinical hours (Saturdays and evenings). Our course includes additional academic support for those who need or want it. At the successful completion of the course, students take the State Certification Examination. Course cost includes the State Certification Examination and cost of the background check.

Admission process includes scheduling an orientation appointment to complete application materials and required reading assessment. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalency (or be working towards their diploma). Immunizations and background checks are required.

Please call for an orientation appointment, which must be scheduled on or before 1/18/20 to secure your registration.

“Pharmacology” - Medication Technician

This course teaches information about medications and their administration (under nursing supervision). Drug interactions, side effects and record keeping are an important part of this course. Equivalent of at least one year of full-time employment as a CNA required prior to acceptance. Must be currently on the Maine State CNA Registry in good standing.Students are required to have access to a (nursing) drug reference book. Most employers will have these available on site. Note: students must pass a reading comprehension test with at least a 10th grade level for entry into this course.

CNAs are caregivers who provide patients assistance with activities of daily living and basic needs. They also help patients feel safe and comfortable throughout their hospital stay. These direct caregivers spend most of their time assisting patients and listening to their concerns. The State of Maine approved CNA course includes classroom work, skills labs, and clinical experience. Candidates must present either a high school diploma, or HiSET/GED. Enrollment is limited to 10. The admission process includes enrollment into our Career Readiness Program, a criminal background check, placement testing, and a series of meetings with PVAEC staff. A non-refundable application fee of $50 is required. The cost of the class is $1,150, which includes tuition, textbook, background check, and state exam.

Computer Aided Drafting (CAD)

Learn the fundamentals of computer-aided drafting using AutoCAD. Learn how to draft at an entry level using the AutoCAD program to draw technical drawings in the architectural, mechanical, land development, or engineering field. The course material will be presented in a series of brief hands-on demonstrations which will teach you the basics of AutoCAD and will be tailored to each student depending on individual interests. The student will be provided weekly exercises in class and work individually or in groups on a final drawing assignment at the end of the course. A working knowledge of personal computers is mandatory in order to take this class.
