Ever consider a career as a drinking water or wastewater treatment plant operator? According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, job prospects are expected to be excellent in the coming decade with a projected growth of 8% through 2022. Many current treatment plant workers are nearing retirement age, and there are not enough new workers entering the industry to meet demand. Recent high school graduates looking for steady work or anyone thinking about a new career with good pay, benefits, and economic stability can find career opportunities in the water treatment and distribution fields. Presenters include career professionals from local drinking and wastewater plants and the Maine Department of Protection. At Kittery Adult Education/Traip Academy, with an option to join virtually.

We will also consider the growing diversity of the communities we serve. This course is fully online. PLEASE NOTE: You will need to purchase the textbook for this class. It must be a new book. The book is MEDICAL OFFICE ADMINISTRATION, 4th EDITION (ISBN: 9780323400756) and may be purchased online. This textbook will be used for other courses in the Medical Administrative Assistant Certificate Program. Course code will be provided upon registration.

Whether you are just thinking about subbing or are a seasoned veteran looking to add some fresh ideas and “tools” to your repertoire, you’ll thoroughly enjoy this professional development opportunity. You will get to tour several schools within the RSU 14 District and will meet various RSU 14 staff members. Learn about the required substitute paperwork and protocol, strategies to keep students on task, tips to make lessons more appealing to reluctant learners along with tried and true behavior modifiers from our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Program. Participants completing the training will receive a differential upon subbing for RSU 14.

A skillful welder is an asset to any company! Join the class to learn basics or gain additional skills in the art of welding. Focus on stick & MIG.

Topics covered:

  • Materials used in welding process
  • How to operate welding equipment
  • Operation of welding equipment in the flat and horizontal positions
  • Safety practices
  • Intro to TIG welding
Students should wear jeans, long sleeve shirts, steel toe boots and bring welding gloves, and safety glasses to class. It is recommended that students bring a welding helmet (auto darkening).
