Movie-Making Magic for Teens!
with Felicity Gibbs, Merrymeeting Community & Adult Education
Do you have a story to tell? Turn it into a short movie. In this introductory 6 week filmmaking course for teens, we will take your story from inception to final project. Learn writing, editing, and how to pitch. This will be a collaborative and interactive experience that will take you from idea to a short film, using something as simple as your cell phone, or even a fancy camera. This will be a 100% fully ONLINE course with personalized one-on-one "check-in" sessions. The class will meet once a week as a group, online. All members of the class are encouraged to collaborate, assist as desired, and discuss with one another. While the instructor will be leading the course each week, there will also be one-on-one sessions with each participant (online). Access to a smartphone, computer or tablet is required for online participation. *For Ages 13-17 y/o.
Summer Dog Obedience
with Donna Cassista, MSAD 52 Adult & Community Education
These training classes will help you work on communication between you and your dog. Discover tricks and techniques to help with certain behaviors. Dogs must have non-chain leashes, a well-fitting collar and current rabies shots. Students under 18 are welcome to attend but must be accompanied by an adult.

American Red Cross-1st Aid/CPR with Pediatric - July 2024
with Pine Tree Education, Mid-Coast School of Technology Adult Education
Participants in Pine Tree Education's interactive class will learn to confidently provide care for Adults/Children/Infants who have experienced a sudden illness or injury until Emergency Medical Services arrive and take over care. Following national Emergency Cardiac Care guidelines, revised during the COVID pandemic, students will learn to recognize a heart attack, and each will work on their own manikin to learn CPR and use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Students will learn how to recognize stroke, and care for breathing emergencies, such as asthma, and choking. First aid skills include the care for burns, bleeding, and other injuries. Instructor looks for attainment of skill level as each skill is taught without a formal testing situation. Optional written tests are available, at no additional cost, but not required for certification. Nationally Recognized Certificate and Ready Reference Cards included.
Summer Kids Cooking Camp!

Embark on a culinary adventure at our new Kids Cooking Camp! Day 1 kicks off with Honey Cornbread and a Big Salad, introducing young chefs to procedures, oven use, and teamwork. Each day unveils new skills like wok cooking, sauce-making, and even delves into the history of dishes. Join us for a week of delicious discoveries and kitchen mastery! All materials included. For ages 10-13 years old.
Fencing Camp for Kids!
with Midcoast Fencing Athletic Club, Merrymeeting Community & Adult Education
In this summer camp for beginners, kids ages 8-12 will learn the basics of fencing. Stance, footwork, and bladework will be introduced and explored, and these young fencers will enjoy time to test their skills against their classmates in real fencing bouts on electric pistes. We will take lots of water breaks, and enjoy fencing-related games during this week-long training session. All equipment will be provided. Please be sure each student arrives wearing long athletic pants (no shorts), has clean indoor athletic sneakers, a water bottle, and a packed lunch. En Garde!
Explore Messalonskee Lake and its Ecology by Kayak | Multiple Sessions Available! - MS
with Mike Guarino, Mid-Maine Regional Adult Community Education
Messalonskee Lake & Steam are wonderful natural resources of the mid-Maine region and offer numerous recreational and conservation activities. Mike Guarino of Maine Wilderness Tours and Friends of Messalonskee Watershed gets you on the water and learning hands-on in this one-day class in JULY! If you have always wanted to learn to kayak and explore the lake's ecology, this is the class for you. Students will receive a free kayak lesson and will be provided all equipment needed. Identification of flora and fauna in the lake and stream will be taught on land followed by a kayak paddle along shore to find various specimens.
Although we will be staying close to shore, all students must know the basics of how to swim. Please wear water shoes; a bathing suit or shorts, sunglasses or polarized glasses, sunscreen, and hat are also helpful and appropriate. Please come prepared with extra clothes just in case you get wet. All students must be 17 to register. If needed, a Rain Date will be announced. Limit 8 students.

Let’s Make It Up! Improv Theater Camp
with Elise Voigt, Merrymeeting Community & Adult Education
This camp experience will allow kids to create and tell their own stories over the course of a week. We will learn and use improv theater techniques and exercises to explore and express ourselves and flex our imagination, culminating in a showcase performance on the final day for friends and family. No experience necessary, just the courage to be on stage and skills for being silly. Elise Voigt is a trained actress and theater educator who has been working in the midcoast area for the last 15 years. Her love of theater and children perfectly combines to make meaningful and memorable moments for students and audiences alike. ***Ages 9-14.
