This course is geared towards anyone with little or no medical training who needs a course completion card for their job, regulatory (e.g., OSHA), or other requirements. A video-based, instructor-led course that teaches students critical skills needed to respond to and manage an emergency until emergency services arrive.

This course uses AHA’s research-proven practice-while-watching technique, which allows instructors to observe the students, provide feedback, and guide the learning of skills. Students receive a course completion card, valid for two years! Pick the date that works for you when you register.

Birch Bark Basket

Learn how to make your own birch bark basket. We will head into the woods to identify trees, learn how to collect the bark from down trees, how to process the bark, and finally how to make a basket.

Paint Your Pet

Paint your pet in acrylic. After registering, you will be emailed instructions on how to send photos to the instructor of your pet. The instructor, Shirley, will premix the colors for your pet and will sketch your pet photo onto a canvas. In class, you will take care of the painting your pet! Use of fun colors and a playful spirit are a must in this class! All materials are provided. Limit 10 students.

Woodworking Basics

For beginning woodworkers with basic hand tool knowledge, this intriguing 3-session introductory course builds your skills as we learn the process of creating a bat house, providing a place for bats to roost and raise their young safely. This project employs woodworking principles and techniques necessary for shop orientation and safety, project review involving building requirements, drawings, and building materials. Learn how to plan the work, build with various woodworking tools, and determine decorative elements and installation aspects. At the final class, students have a completed bat house to finish and install at home or donate! A student supply list is available upon registration. Each student will also need to bring a materials fee of $65 (cash or check made payable to the instructor) for the material kit they will receive at the first class meeting. You will also need your own safety glasses, hearing protection, lightweight work gloves, pencils, white artists eraser, and closed toe shoes.

Introduction to Breathwork

Lay essential foundations for developing a safe, effective home practice. 

Learn different breathing exercises (practice) and how to apply them in real life.

Guided breathwork practice each week .

- Relieve stress & anxiety

- Restore quality sleep

- Improve attention & focus

- Increase energy levels

Please bring a yoga mat, comfortable clothing, and a light stomach.

Preserving the Harvest: Jams and Jellies - MS

Has this long winter made you dream about strawberries and perhaps making some jams and jellies? Join Deborah Barnett from the UMaine Cooperative Extention in this hands-on food preservation workshop! You will learn the basics steps for both canning and freezing. Participants will receive a "Preserving the Harvest" food preservation packet and will learn the latest and safest recipes, about equipment to insure safety, and how to check for properly sealed jars. Please bring a potholder with you to the workshop, as you will be able to take home a jar of what we prepare that evening! There will be a $20 material fee (cash or check only) due to the instructor at the start of class. Limit 10 students.

Maine Driving Dynamics

Students must attend in person.; the BMV has discontinued Zoom classes.

The Maine Driving Dynamics course is a driver improvement course that is aime to improve a student's defensive driving awareness and abilities.

This two-night course includes discussion of collision avoidance techniques, safety issues, driver habits and attitudes, and the basic elements that constantly challenge drivers on Maine's highways.  Our goal is to save lives, prevent injuries, and reduce vehicle-related crashes.

A student who completes this course will receive a three-point credit on their driving record.  It may take up to two weeks for processing.  Quesions regarding your license should be addressed to Bureau of Motor Vehicles at 207-624-9000.
