Contemporary Marbling on Paper & Fabric

with Claire Reynes, Merrymeeting Community & Adult Education

Calendar Jun 12, 2024 at 4:30 pm, runs for 4 weeks

In this class, we will explore the art of marbling! From suminagashi to marbled wood we will learn about this centuries-old process and find playful ways to test the materials and see what is possible. We will cover several steps of the process including how to prepare marbling colors, the marbling bath, and the surfaces to be marbled. In each class, there will be opportunities to play with color, design, and surface texture over the 4 weeks. We will briefly talk about the traditional marbling processes such as combing patterns, however, this class is more focused on the exploration of material rather than the mastery of traditional techniques. Each participant will leave with several pieces of marbled paper and fabric to take home and use in their own creative projects. $30 materials fee.
