Fencing Camp for Kids!
with Midcoast Fencing Athletic Club, Merrymeeting Community & Adult Education
In this summer camp for beginners, kids ages 8-12 will learn the basics of fencing. Stance, footwork, and bladework will be introduced and explored, and these young fencers will enjoy time to test their skills against their classmates in real fencing bouts on electric pistes. We will take lots of water breaks, and enjoy fencing-related games during this week-long training session. All equipment will be provided. Please be sure each student arrives wearing long athletic pants (no shorts), has clean indoor athletic sneakers, a water bottle, and a packed lunch. En Garde!
Explore Messalonskee Lake and its Ecology by Kayak | Multiple Sessions Available! - MS
with Mike Guarino, Mid-Maine Regional Adult Community Education
Messalonskee Lake & Steam are wonderful natural resources of the mid-Maine region and offer numerous recreational and conservation activities. Mike Guarino of Maine Wilderness Tours and Friends of Messalonskee Watershed gets you on the water and learning hands-on in this one-day class in JULY! If you have always wanted to learn to kayak and explore the lake's ecology, this is the class for you. Students will receive a free kayak lesson and will be provided all equipment needed. Identification of flora and fauna in the lake and stream will be taught on land followed by a kayak paddle along shore to find various specimens.
Although we will be staying close to shore, all students must know the basics of how to swim. Please wear water shoes; a bathing suit or shorts, sunglasses or polarized glasses, sunscreen, and hat are also helpful and appropriate. Please come prepared with extra clothes just in case you get wet. All students must be 17 to register. If needed, a Rain Date will be announced. Limit 8 students.

Let’s Make It Up! Improv Theater Camp
with Elise Voigt, Merrymeeting Community & Adult Education
This camp experience will allow kids to create and tell their own stories over the course of a week. We will learn and use improv theater techniques and exercises to explore and express ourselves and flex our imagination, culminating in a showcase performance on the final day for friends and family. No experience necessary, just the courage to be on stage and skills for being silly. Elise Voigt is a trained actress and theater educator who has been working in the midcoast area for the last 15 years. Her love of theater and children perfectly combines to make meaningful and memorable moments for students and audiences alike. ***Ages 9-14.
Paint Night: The Brook Trout

Paint Night w/ Shirley! Like they say, a bad day fishing is better than a good day at work. Come join us and learn to paint this beautiful and colorful freshwater Brook Trout. Shirley Anderson will lead you step by step through the process and teach you a few painting tips and techniques. Canvas and paints are supplied.

Create a succulent garden to take home!
You may bring a container or use one of the containers provided to create a succulent garden to take to your home.
I will provide some containers, dirt, and plants for you to create your own succulent garden.

Maine Open Farm Day

with Chris Knapp, Franklin County Adult Education
Visit the working homestead and education center of Maine Local Living School on Open Farm Day! We will lead tours of the campus including the ice house, root cellar, greenhouse and gardens, solar food dehydrator, animal barn, and the classroom/workshop. Visitors will learn about and interact with earth-friendly systems including rainwater collection and solar water heating, rocket stoves and outdoor kitchens, composting toilets, and alternative building construction. Visitors will also have the opportunity to put their hands to work on a homestead project and try cookies made with acorn flour. Free and open to the public.

Hornet Pride YOUTH Football Camp
with Michael Hathaway, MSAD 52 Adult & Community Education
This camp is for players entering GRADES 3-6.
The focus will be on developing football skills and having fun while learning the game from the Leavitt Football coaching staff and players.
Players will need cleats and a molded mouthpiece. Equipment will be provided for players who participate in the TAA football program.

Journaling for Writers
with Stephanie Garrity, Merrymeeting Community & Adult Education
A question that is often asked of writers is “where do you get your ideas from?” It is one thing to have an idea; it is another thing entirely to remember it when you sit down at your computer to write. Learn how to harness your writer’s imagination, avoid writer’s block and hone your writing skills by keeping a daily writer’s journal. Your instructor will share tips and techniques for setting up your journal as well as for finding inspiration even when you are not feeling particularly inspired. A blank notebook will be provided, please bring your own writing utensils. Can’t wait to see you there!
