Preserving the Harvest: Jams and Jellies*

Has this long winter made you dream about strawberries and perhaps making some jams or jellies? Well, strawberry season is coming right up, and this hands-on food preservation workshop will teach you the basics steps for both canning and freezing. Participants will receive a “Preserving the Harvest” food preservation packet and will learn the latest and safest recipes, about equipment to insure safety, and how to check for properly sealed jars. Please bring a potholder with you to the workshop, so you will be able to take home a jar of what we prepare that evening! Limit 10 students.
Becoming a Notary Public
with Bethany Mulkern, Old Orchard Beach/Saco Adult Education

The main responsibility of a notary is to formally witness transactions involving paper documents and, in Maine, to perform marriage ceremonies. Study the office's history as well as its responsibilities, qualifications, and record-keeping requirements. You must live in ME or be a NH resident regularly employed or with a business/trade in Maine. Leave with the test completed and a plan in place for turning in your paperwork. A notary license is $50 and valid for seven years.
Bethany Mulkern has been a notary public since May 2019 and has performed various notarial duties, including weddings. As a result, she is well-versed in all aspects of the role of a notary public and has a great deal of enthusiasm about the subject matter, which she's excited to share with her students!

Jessica Muise, a multidisciplinary artist and educator has been teaching and making art throughout New England for the last 15 years. She is passionate about using the arts as tools for social change and serves as a creative economy advisor to several arts organizations and artist-led coalitions.

Essential Oils 101
with Elissa Nauman, Gorham Adult Education

Do you use essential oils but want to know more about them? Or maybe you have no experience but are curious? In this one-night workshop, we will discuss what essential oils are, how they are made, and how they can enhance your life. We will touch upon some of the more commonly used essential oils and will also cover safety precautions. You will learn about the different qualities of essential oils on the market and how to make an educated decision when faced with many other brand choices. Participants will go home with a spray blend and a roller bottle blend that they will make (for a materials fee of $5). Elissa "Elle" Nauman, MS, is the founder of Restoring Through Nature, LLC. She guides clients to achieve their physical, emotional, and spiritual health goals through the support of essential oils and energy work (Reiki and IET). She has a Master of Science in Counseling and is certified in essential oils coaching, Usui Reiki Level 2, Integrated Energy Therapy, Reiki Crystal Healing, and is a Certified Chakra Therapist.
