Creating With Watercolor - Advanced Beginners

Join Kathryn Carter and learn how to create stunning seascapes, landscapes, plants, flowers and birds with professional instruction and step-by-step demonstrations. Learn how to select the right materials and handle them properly; color mixing ( to avoid making mud); the use of exciting techniques to capture light and shadow; and much more. Watercolor teaches us to slow down, be present, and enjoy the journey with confidence, gratitude, patience, and joy. Let’s paint!

MATERIALS – 2024-2025

PALETTE Mijello 18-well airtight (Amazon $20). Any covered palette will work. PAINT I recommend small tubes. Pans are hard to work with. Sets contain colors we do not use and they omit ones we do need. Windsor Newton, DaVinci, Daniel Smith are a few of the trusted brands we use. Colors Cadmium Lemon, Cadmium Yellow Pale, Burnt Sienna, Cadmium Red, Alizarin Crimson, Cobalt Blue, French Ultramarine, Sap green, Titanium white. Additional but optional: Raw Sienna, Permanent Rose, Cerulean, Payne’s Gray

PAPER Arches Watercolor Paper Pad, 140 lb. Cold Press- 9x12.

BRUSHES Synthetic rounds in sizes #2, #4, #6, #8. 1/2” Flat. #1 Liner (optional). Black Velvet brushes are a blend of natural hair and synthetic, hold a good point and lots of paint or water. I use my #8 all the time along with a few synthetic brushes.

Open Studio: Ceramics Handbuilding and Throwing: AM Session III

with Gorham Adult Education

Calendar Mar 6, 2025 at 10 am, runs for 4 weeks

Open studio is offered for those who are interested in using our space and materials to make clay work independently from a class and is available for use only by those who have taken at least one ceramics class at our studio or for those with prior experience that has been approved by the studio manager. Open studio members can choose to handbuild, throw on the wheel, or both! Registration will include 25 pounds of clay, use of wheels and tools, a storage shelf, and the glazing and firing of work made in that month. All clay must be purchased through Gorham Arts Alliance and all firings will be done by the studio manager. You are welcome to purchase your own cone 5/6 glazes to use in firings if you want something other than what is provided. All classes are held at the Art and Nature Center at Tannery Brook. 

AM Session III: 4 classes, Thursdays, 3/6-3/27, 10:00am-1:00pm, $140

Additional, optional work time will be offered for open studio members and current students on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays 10am-1pm and Fridays from 5pm-8pm. Members are welcome to attend as many or as few times during the week as they choose, but Thursdays will be the only day where there is guaranteed space. The extra, optional work time is first come, first serve for available wheel use and table space. The studio will be closed on federal holidays.

CASAS Testing for CRMA Program Section 2

CASAS tests assess a student's skill levels in English reading and writing comprehension. Testing waived IF:

  • you have CASAS tested within the past year and can provide proof of testing/score, OR
  • you have a CNA certification and can provide verification of certificate.

*Required for enrollment in Certified Residential Medication Aid Certificate Program.

A Night In The Isabella Gardner Museum

This is an evening event at the Isabella Gardner Museum where you will enjoy art and live music.. The trip leaves promptly at 2:45pm Thursday March 06, 2025 from Wells High School. Transportation and entrance fee are included in your fee. Dinner and refreshments are available for purchase. The event is from 5:00 to 9:00 PM, plenty of time to enjoy the museum, dinner, and refreshments. The van returns to Wells from the museum approximately 11:00 PM. There is a maximum of 08 passengers, please register early.

Are you comfortable with your clay abilities and just looking for a place to work and improve your skills? Join us in the Morse High School Ceramics Studio and start making all those things you have been dreaming up! This is not an instructor lead class, but the instructor will be on site working in case you need something. $65 for materials and studio fee, payable to instructor, must be paid on the first night of class. *Purchasing additional clay: The fee is an additional $65 to cover the firing, glazes and other consumables used during class. Please note: If you miss a class, you cannot make-up the class at another time. The ceramics schedule is very tight and these classes are usually full. Thank you for your understanding! *No Class: 3/27.

Babysitter Training (American Red Cross)

Ages: 11 - 15

The primary purpose of the Babysitter Training course is to provide prospective youth babysitters with the knowledge and skills necessary for safe and responsible childcare, such as diapering, bottle- and spoon-feeding, age-appropriate games, activities, and dealing with uncooperative children. This training will also help participants to develop leadership skills and become better babysitters. They will learn how to build a babysitting business, keep themselves and others safe, and learn about basic childcare and basic first aid. This training is designed for students ages 11 to 15.

Sewing 101

Sewing 101; The Next Step

If you took Ruth Howe’s Sewing Machine class this spring, then you are ready for this class. Building on the knowledge you gained about your machine and how well you know it now, Ruth will help and guide you through a simple sewing project of your choosing that will make you feel more confident to start sewing on your own at home. This class is for people new to sewing but have knowledge of their machine. The first project will be chosen during class and Ruth will help create a list of materials you will need for your project. A second project may also be taught as the class progresses if there is time. Please bring a three ring binder, your own sewing shears, thread, and machine. Tuition includes text books and some materials. Ruth will work with you to determine what you will need to purchase for your project. Six weeks. 

When: Thursdays, starting March 6th
