Consists of Basic Belly Dance positions and moves, with a twist of hula moves and abdominal floor work.  

This class is for beginners.

Comfy clothes are all that’s required.

 

BIO: A professional dance instructor with over 40 years’ experience, Mary Anne Dalleo still believes in “old school “instruction.  She concentrates on how the body benefits from correct positioning while also allowing the body to do what comes “naturally. “She’s owned 4 dance studios from New York to Maine and knows what makes a student transform into a “happy” dancer.

Strength and Yin Yoga 3.6.25

In this 1.5 hour class you will learn strength training and yin yoga using a combination of strength training—through Pilates, band work, ball, plyometrics, and body weight—followed by slow stretching and restorative yoga on the floor. Students should have a yoga mat, 2 blocks, a bolster or large pillow, medium exercise ball (48-55cm), small hand exercise ball, 2" light band, resistance band with handle (light or 5-10lb), and 5lb dumbbell.

Join us as we discuss the various tools filmmakers use (cinematography, editing, sound, ect.) to communicate themes beyond the pages of the screenplay. For newcomers and veteran cinephiles alike!

Wesley grew up in New England. He has lived all over the country, working on multiple film sets, and written for various entertainment sites about film. He would like to share that passion and knowledge with others.

An estimated 11.3 million tons of textile waste end up in landfills each year in America. Let's keep some clothes out of the landfill by learning basic hand-mending stitches! Explore different stitch techniques and create your own cloth stitching sampler book to take home. All materials provided.

Sara Ottomano has more than 10 years of experience teaching art classes. She enjoys encouraging others to play with materials, explore sustainable artmaking practices, and create stories together.

A Fun, Modern Look at Shakespeare

Join the fun as veteran stage actor Joseph Coté leads a lively discussion of some tragic, comic, and historic favorites—Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and King Henry IV, Part 1—whose characters could well be people living today, even next door. Perhaps Juliet is a ninth grader, Romeo on the hockey team, Puck a school play ham, by day Falstaff eats while shopping at Hannaford’s, by night he’s a Cuzzy’s regular, and who isn’t familiar with a certain renegade Prince Hal? Plays and study materials will be supplied well in advance. Come prepared to cover three plays over six sessions with the opportunity for jovial table reads.

Basic Bookmaking

Bookmaking has a long, rich history. Artists all over the globe have embraced this method of expression and pushed the boundaries of what “making a book" means. Handmade books are a fun and satisfying functional art form. The methods of bookmaking are endless, and once you try one, you will want to learn more! Giving a handmade book as a gift is a very special keepsake indeed. Especially if you fill it with your own artwork! Beginner to advanced students welcome. Supply list will be sent to all participants once we know class will run.

About Debra: Debra Bickford has lived in the Buxton and Hollis area for over 50 years. She has a BA from Maine College of Art and a BS in Art Education from USM. She has taught Visual Arts in Maine at the High School Level for 37 years and recently retired. She has also served on the board of the Maine Art Education Association for twenty years and was the President from 2017-19. In 2015 she was the MAEA Secondary Art Educator of the year and in 2018 she was honored with the MAEA Art Educator of the year. Debra is a painter and printmaker who loves to garden.

Join our RSU 3 Artist in Residence Hector Pietra-Santa to learn the art of fruit and vegetable carving.  This session is a free introduction to the craft, with produce and carving tools provided. 

For those who like the craft and want to continue, another class will be offered March 20 where students will pay a small fee for the produce and their own carving tool to keep.
