Games are increasingly recognized as a tool that can serve many business purposes beyond entertainment. This Certificate provides you with a general introduction to what goes into the design and development of both video and analog games, with a particular focus on the use of games outside of consumer entertainment.  In the first course, you will discover resources for developing game design, identify the mechanics and verbs used in different games. You will come away with knowing the different activities that are part of game design, being able to flesh out a game idea in order to increase the chances of having a successful game design experience, and have a basic understanding of how to work with game developers. In the second course, you will learn the basics of the video game design process, learn about the main video game genres, and use a game development application to begin your journey of making games.    By successfully completing this Certificate in Basic Game Design, you will have taken the first steps into understanding game design, and being able to create your own games. How do you keep track of the day-to-day financial transactions of a business?  Whether you are looking to advance in your career, or you’re an entrepreneur, (or maybe you are a part of a family business), this course will help you if you are looking to understand the numbers.  The Basics of Bookkeeping course will help you understand, and know how to record, every penny that comes into your business and every penny that goes out of your business.  This course shows you how to create a chart of accounts that meets your needs.   All of the money you spend, and all of the money you earn, have a place to go.  How do your record them?  What are debits and credits?  What do the numbers mean?  How do I label accounts?  Even if you outsource your bookkeeping needs, you should still have a basic understanding of what happens with the money earned and the money spent.  No one should be blind to his or her finances!  In this course, you will learn where the numbers go, and why!  You will learn the bookkeeping terminology as well as what it means to keep track of the numbers.  At the end of the cycle, what do the numbers mean?  The Basics of Bookkeeping will show you how to keep track of the numbers and why!

This is a one-month course that begins each quarter: winter, spring, summer, fall.

If you have ever considered a career as a veterinary assistant, you might have quite a few questions about what it is they do: What vaccinations do cats and dogs? What is the best way to control fleas? What do you do if your dog has a cut? What is the best way to deal with an emergency situation involving a pet? This course answers these questions and more.

You will learn about pet nutrition and a variety of health and safety issues. You will understand how to treat and prevent parasites, including roundworms and heartworms. You will even learn the facts of life, as it pertains to dogs and cats. You will explore current thoughts on spaying and neutering, how to deal with the very emotional issues of euthanasia, pet loss, and how best to assist clients in a time of need.

Two-Month Course, quarterly starts

Our community needs individuals who want to make a difference in a child's life. Maine Children with intellectual challenges, autism, and mental health disorders, as well as their families, depend on Children's Behavioral Health Services, and there is a huge need in our area! A Certified Behavioral Health Professional (BHP) is an essential member of a child's treatment team and has the chance to have an instant influence while assisting children in reaching their full potential. We are thrilled to provide this fantastic Blended training to our community. You will be equipped to work with children who need services while preparing yourself for employment with local social service agencies and/or school programs. Start whenever you choose, and go at your own pace. You have 6 months from your registration day to complete the course. You will complete 12 online modules, then participate in two Live sessions: BHP Live Day (8-9 hours offered in-person or virtually) and Ethical Considerations (2.5 hours offered virtually). You will also receive a stipend to obtain Child & Adult First Aid/CPR certification and free online training in blood-borne pathogens. Our free remote training program can get you certified and started in a career that will change your life in just 40 hours. Required: Must be a Maine resident and at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent to become certified. The state also requires that you take an inperson cpr/first aid class.. The cost of up to $100 will be reimbursed once you have completed the American Red Cross or American Heart Saver Course. Woodfords CPR/FA classes in Westbrook, Manchester and Brewer are free for all workforce learners. Jeffrey Carpenter, Workforce Recruitment Specialist for the State of Maine's Office of Child and Family Services through Woodfords Family Services, is here to help you through this learning opportunity by providing answers to questions and assistance with technical issues, should any arise. He is also a resource to connect you with service agencies once you have completed the training.

For any and all students who are prepping for Nursing or Medical Laboratory Technology admissions review, this is an excellent opportunity to meet the admissions “Biology with lab” prerequisite. If you have been away from science courses for a while, this course is recommended to prep you for rigorous college science classes. Students who successfully complete this class will earn 1 high school credit. Spring semester.
