Every Picture Tells A Story: Organizing Photographs

Farming with Native Plants
with David Spahr, Kennebec Neighbors Adult Education

This class is about how you can grow and harvest edible native plants. David has been farming his land (and a nearby public plot) in Washington, Maine for many years, and his PowerPoint will show the native plants he farms with- such as wild high bush blueberries, American chestnut, Viburnums, and dozens more- while he provides a discussion of the ecological implications.
Gardening: Making the Most of Your Yard and Garden in Spring
with Sharon Turner, Five Town CSD Adult & Community Education

Spring is a great time to plan, prepare, and plant trees, shrubs, and perennials! Whether you're starting from scratch, needing to renovate existing plantings, wanting to plan a new vegetable or flower garden, or create a special habitat for birds and beneficials, this field-based class is for you! The first meeting is the only one held at CHRHS; subsequent classes will meet at each participant's property to explore individualized, site-specific options. Organic practices will be emphasized as will the incorporation of native plants, especially those important for birds, bees, butterflies, and other beneficials. Please give us your physical address when registering. The first night is mandatory, students will receive information and subsequent garden visits will be planned for all participants—this will be the only meeting held in a classroom. Dates and times of subsequent meetings will be determined that evening. A $10 materials fee (handouts) is to be paid to instructor. Approximately 8 weeks total, with some meetings at gardens on weekdays and some on weekends. This class will include a meeting at the instructor's nursery in Washington.

Intermediate Drawing

Students in Drawing II will engage in sequential learning experiences that encompass aesthetics and production and lead to the creation of portfolio quality works. Further development of drawing skills is the primary objective of this class and uses the human figure, landscape, still life and design work to help accomplish this goal. Students will learn various techniques and different approaches to drawing through the use of chalk, colored pencil, conte crayon, pastels, pen and ink, charcoal, and pencil. Learn to Garden No Matter the Space
with Ivonne Vazquez, Bangor Adult & Community Education

You can garden whether you have 50 acres, 5 feet of space or a window box! In this class you will learn about square foot gardening, container gardening, building a raised bed and which plants, veggies, herbs and fruits do well in large or confined spaces. The instructor will demonstrate how to build a simple 4’x4’ raised garden bed. Open to all skill levels.
Plan for the Future: Maximizing Social Security and Creating your Retirement Income

We discuss whether Social Security can provide the income people need in retirement and how to make the most of Social Security benefits. Also, make determinations on how much income will be needed in retirement and how to identify potnetial income sources and how to make savings last.
Scallop Shell Decoupage

In this workshop you will create 3 beautiful decoupage scallop shells that can be used as trinket dishes or hung as art or ornaments. Choose from a wide variety of themes and prints to make your own design. This 4 step process is fun and easy to do! Each student will make 3 finished pieces-great for yourself, or to give as gifts.
