Beginners Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) Basics and Tour

Learn to SUP with a Maine Registered Guide in a quiet Estuary in Kittery Point, Maine. No experience necessary however must be able to swim. Please wear clothing that you can move comfortably in, can get wet, and will dry quickly. We will review the basics of a SUP, safety precautions related to tidal waters, the importance of Boating Laws in Maine as related to the SUP as a vessel, and how to safely launch your SUP. Learn to SUP with a Maine Registered Guide in a quiet Estuary in Kittery Point, Maine. No experience necessary however must be able to swim. Please wear clothing that you can move comfortably in, can get wet, and will dry quickly. We begin our evening with reviewing The Basics of a SUP, the equipment being used, all safety precautions related to tidal waters, the importance of Boating Laws in Maine as related to the SUP as a vessel, and how to safely launch your SUP, how to enter and exit every body of water, and review wet suit/dry suit benefits. Basic SUP (Five) Paddle strokes are reviewed on land and in the water. After mastering initial safe entry on your SUP and have learned to paddle, we take a short tour of this local estuary and enjoy some local Maine history and perhaps get a glimpse of local Maine Birds. Open to Beginners with all equipment included: Paddleboard, Paddle, leash, and Coast Guard Approved (PFD) Personal Flotation Device with whistle. Limited to 6. Class Meets at Cutts Island Trail/Rachel Carson Wildlife Refuge at 3 Seapoint Road in Kittery Point, Maine. Parking along side of road.

Wine Glass Painting w/ Melissa

Make a new friend while creating one of a kind wine glasses. This class will focus on color patterns, and brush techniques. All artistic abilities are welcome. Bring your own wine glasses and paint as many as you like in this 2-hour workshop. They make wonderful gifts and are customizable for any occasion. Brushes and paint will be provided. You will leave with your new wine glasses and the brushes needed to continue experimenting.

Join author David Spahr for an indoor presentation and discussion of edible and medicinal mushrooms, identification, tools and equipment for harvesting, as well as books, materials, and other resources. David has collected edible mushrooms for 50 years. He is a member of the Maine Mycological Association and the North American Mycological Association.

Lets Get Ready to GARDEN! - Class 6

Class 6 in the "Let's Get Ready to GARDEN" series
Have you been wanting to start a garden but aren't sure how to get started? Have your prior attempts at growing turned brown? If you've gardened before or not, would you like to plan your garden with a group of fellow plant and dirt lovers?
We will savor seed catalogs and packets, discuss various options for planting and garden design for whatever your situation. We will plan for starting seeds, purchasing plants, and transplanting. The class will cover the basics of garden care through the growing season, address individual questions/situations, and provide resources for you to continue your gardening adventures. There may even be some seedling swapping and a forum for celebrations and support outside of class.
Class 6 will go over:
"Gonna Make This Garden Grow!" Care of the summer garden.
• Learn fundamentals of plant and garden care through
the growing season.
• Learn about succession and companion planting, pruning and trellising,
weeding and deadheading, pests and pest control, composting
and harvesting.
Non-chemical weed and pest management methods will be discussed. Participants will be provided with Extension Office approved information on pest and weed control, garden hygiene and composting.

Family Literacy Parent Engagement: Proactive vs Reactive Planning June 13, via Google Meet W24

An online meet and greet to hold space for conversations surrounding your students. Topics surround family unit cohesion. Including subjects like the influence of social media, proactive vs reactive planning, dinner conversation starters, etc.

Oyster Farm & Complimentary Tasting Sea Kayak Tour
with Alice Bean Andrenyak, Merrymeeting Community & Adult Education
Paddle during our 3 hour sea kayak tour and learn about Maine's Aquaculture industry. We will learn about lobstering, clamming, fishing and we'll stop at Mere Point Oyster Company's strings to learn about oyster farming. We will head to an island to land for a break for snacks that you brought and to learn to shuck oysters before the complimentary tasting. Oyster sauces include lemon juice, chipotle Tabasco sauce and Alice's Famous Maine Blueberry Mignonette sauce. Weather conditions unsafe for paddling will cancel the trip. June 14, 2024.
