Calendar Mar 3, 2020 at 6 pm, runs for 8 weeks
This introductory guitar course is designed for beginners interested in learning how to play the guitar. We will cover guitar maintenance, string sizes, changing strings, choosing the proper guitar and care of the guitar. We will cover sight-reading, music theory, scales, and note values. We will also incorporate guitar processors and signal boxes - if you bring them, and learn how to set up amps. When you finish this course you should be able to pick up sheet music and know key, melody, chords, and changes. You will need to bring a guitar and the instructor will bring books, which you must purchase before the start of the first class - cost TBD - about $7. You will also need a 3-ring binder for your homework. The instructor welcomes students ages 10 and up. Parent or guardian must register and participate in the class with students under 17. Make a Knotweed Flute

with Zack Rouda, Scarborough Adult Learning Center

Calendar Mar 4, 2020 at 5:30 pm, runs for 1 week

Creatively repurpose invasives! Japanese knotweed is an abundant and frustrating invasive. If you’re seeking non-chemical responses, explore creative, out-of-the-box ways to put this plant to use: its young shoots are edible, its roots may be used to fight Lyme disease, and its stalks, resembling bamboo, can be fashioned into a functional musical instrument. Cover identification, best gathering practices, materials storage and processing; use knives, wood-burners, rubber bands and string to make 1-2 types of flutes. All materials included. Zack is Director and an instructor for Rewild Maine, an educational nonprofit promoting nature connection by teaching small-scale, place-based living skills; partial proceeds benefit Rewild Maine.

Wed, 3/4/2020, 5:30 to 7:30 pm, $32

Instructor: Zack Rouda
